I feel like if Marky goes down in the playoffs I would rather they give Wolf a try than Vladar. Teams wouldn’t have as much scouting on him and he has been an unstoppable brick wall wherever he has played.

Kind of like what Cam Ward did in 2006

My concern with that is that both Markstrom and Vladar are big goalies that play a similar style. The skaters, and particularly the defense, are used to the styles and can probably predict their play fairly well.

Wolf is a completely different kind of goalie and wouldn't have the same kind of chemistry, at least not immediately.

I don't think it is really disrespectful to Vladar or that he would take it the wrong way. He is a pro and probably understands that rewarding prospects with an NHL game is not a bad thing.
I thought that they recalled him so they can give Markstrom a couple of practices off, and a game where he doesn't need to sit on the bench.

The other part of it is to give Wolf a financial reward, and increase his development by being around Markstrom, LaBarbera, and to a lesser extant Vladar. I mean they could probably have a few good pointers for him. In addition, it kind of helps him get even better acquainted with the system and accustomed to NHL pace.

I see no chance this happens, unless Vladar craps the bed terribly in a start.

Let's not overthink it, vladar has been very good at the NHL level this season. He is obviously #2

I also find the perception of Wolf interesting. He is 3rd in the AHL with a .924sv% this year. People seem to forget that 2 years ago Vladar was leading the AHL with a much more impressive .936sv%. Vladar also had a .923sv% in 10 games last year, which I think is more difficult when you're bouncing between the NHL and AHL. At this stage in their career if we account for NHL experience Vladar is the better and go to goalie.

If only there were a way to split the duties and have both of them play. But alas...

If flames go into the 3rd with a 2g+ lead, wolf might start the 3rd.

Vladar Would certainly get the first look but I feel like the leash should and would be short

Cam Ward had NHL experience, Wolf does not & Ward has more AHL experience than Wolf including playoff games. Great season by Wolf.. but lets not forget its the AHL

No chance Sutter plays Wolfe in a playoff game. If anything happens to Marky it will be the Vladar show.

I love how on game 82 of the season we can all argue about whether the #2 or #3 goalie should be in net vs talking about a must win game in order to make the playoffs, win the division, game home ice, etc.. this really also show that Tuesday cant come soon enough!!

Can’t start Markstrom too risky, can’t start Vladar too risky, can’t start Wolf too risky.

No choice but to make Johnny throw on those pads and give it a go. When was the last time a guy had 40 goals, 115 points and a shutout before? That’s what I thought. Guaranteed Hart right there.

This is a must win. If we don’t win, we could trickle down to first in the division
