Exact reasoning on my part, except I’m hoping for Nashville.

Nashville w/o Saros does seem like the much better matchup. Dallas always plays us well and the goalies turn into walls.

These are the two worst teams in the playoffs...should be happy with either

True, but with the Preds missing their #1 goaltender and (from the looks of it) not having a viable backup, it makes the likelihood of a sweep go up substantially. The Flames getting extra rest before the start of round 2 would be huge for their cup chances.

Pretty sure Anaheim had a couple seasons of goalies getting hot in the playoffs, one involving the Flames.
Edit: Didn't Arturs Irbe or Wade Flaherty surprise a good Flames team too back in the day?

Then there's Wade Flaherty in 95. It still makes me sick when I think about it.

Flashbacks of the Trevor Kidd, and losing in double overtime.

Man I was gonna say Irbe never played in the West!!! Then it all came flooding back how he was a Shark before they had turned into that goalie factory. And before he took the Canes on a run. Man what a spark plug he was for a goalie.

Yep, outshot San Jose 60-30 and still lost. The goal was pretty lame too and I turned on Kidd after that. I was still 13 going on 14 though. I remember my sister's boyfriend bugging me and me telling him to shut up.

Rechiel with two chances to end it, post and cross bar late in third and then OT.
This after shooting it inexplicably back into McLean the year before in OT vs Vancouver.

Entertainment wise, definitely Nashville.
Long term durability wise, Dallas.
Goaltending wise, without Saros you’d typically obviously rather face Nashville except for one thing…I can see Rittich playing out of his mind against his former team and that scares the crap out of me.

I can see Rittich getting lit up in game 1 and they go to their top AHL goalie for the rest of the series

Nashville - Colorado 4:4 with 2 min remaining in third. Preds had a chance to preview both of their potential first round opponents in just two days.

Nashville gets to OT, so they're back ahead of Dallas with the tiebreaker.
They control their own destiny now with 3 more points up for grabs while Dallas can only get 2.

Now Dallas needs a win in any fashion and a regulation Nashville lose. Should be an interesting few games tomorrow. Dallas game starts 2 hours earlier.

Oh wow. Did not see that coming. Maybe facing the Preds isn't such a great idea after all...
