What an absolutely brutal thing to have happen in game 80 of the season. That's just crushing.

Do they turn to Connor Ingram? Or does Big Save get a run?

Looks like Ingram gets the start on Friday. Probably best hope is that he catches lightning in the bottle and is harder for teams to pre-scout versus Big Save Dave.

Sure but when you have access to some of the best physiotherapy and medical staff that money can buy, 24/7 round the clock, it certainly gives an athlete a bump in recovery timelines.

You've got to feel for them - it would be absolutely crushing to lose a goalie of that calibre at this juncture of the season.

Rittich is brutal, Nashville has no chance with him in the net. They are absolutely the lottery ticket you hope for in round one at this point.

Feel bad for Preds fans. And as a Flames fan I was looking forward to a Preds series, but if Rittich plays like he did the other night it will feel kinda cheap.

Why the hell don't you have a competent backup?
And it's Poile as GM which I'm kinda shocked by
The same reason the Flames didn't have a decent starter for nearly a decade or the same reason the Oilers haven't found an upgrade. You get into a bidding war with other teams and it potentially blows your salary structure out of the water.

Yea you 100% start the kid.If he falters then Dave is getting thrown into the fire (literally).

Can't really do it the other way.

I don't disagree, but you need to be careful making assumptions on this. Especially with the Flames lengthy track record of bombing in the playoffs. Until this team shows us they can stomp a team in a series, I don't think we reserve any right to take a team lightly.

Nashville is still a really good team with nearly 100 points and players that can put the puck in the net. If Ingram or Rittich get hot for a handful of games, they could easily make a mess of a series in a hurry.

Rittich's worst season in the league too. It's just not going right for him.

They'll probably be playing Ingram by game 2.

I don't think Rittich is going to come in and own the show so really unfortunate for then. That guy really needs a mental strength coach or something because he can string together some solid play when he is confident. He didn't get to be an all star that one year for being trash but afterwards just seemed to lose all consistency

From what I understand, Saros wants the ankle transplant surgery but Nashville doesn't think he needs it. They want him back as soon as possible, whereas he's more concerned about his ankle over time.

There's lots of debate right now on the pros and cons of an ankle transplant. It hasn't been done on an NHL player yet, but there have been a couple of pro athletes that got it done and recovered fine.

This whole thing is going to get really crazy before it ever gets resolved. I'm betting Saros is just going to refuse to play until he can find an ankle donor and then a doctor that is willing to do it. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if Nashville trades him to a team that's willing to let him get the ankle transplant done. It'll be a huge risk for the team getting him, though, so not really expecting a huge return.

Did Tampa feel cheap winning the cup in 04? Did Chicago feel cheap in 09 beating us without regehr and giordano? We have passed the first round twice in 30+ years... we will take it whatever and however we get, IMO anyways!

They play the Avs tonight so that's not surprising

Lets go Avs! (tonight only)

Go Coyotes Go (tomorrow only)

and something something quack like the Ducks (tomorrow)

I'm firmly in the prefer playing Preds camp now. I think either team will be a good matchup and we can obviously beat the stars, but Rittich? gimmie

If you want the Preds you are cheering for the wrong teams

I can sympathize with the Preds team and fans for such a loss but it won’t feel cheap to me if we play them. The Flames made their luck by winning the division and pressuring their goalie hard enough to get hurt. The Preds got unlucky, but they gambled by riding Saros so hard and not having a decent backup goalie.

Wouldn't we rather play Dallas anyway? Like, regardless of the who's in net for Nashville.

I would rather play Nashville with Rittich in net.
Which pains me to say because I love that guy.
But right now he's not a good goalie.
