This different night, different captain setup we have going is frankly perfect as it is.
Watching this season and the players, Backlund still checks all the boxes the best of any one, and he's often speaking with the refs on behalf of the team. But he's also on his decline at the same time and people could easily turn on him in the next couple years if he's still here because that drop off will happen. I think you want to hand the C to someone in their prime, whos going to be an important player for years to come.
More and more Rasmus seems to fit that bill.

Yeah, I think it will probably be Tkachuk, and it will make absolutely no difference for this team on the ice. NHL captaincies are hugely overrated.

I used to think it would mess with what makes him effective and thought it would be better going to someone else. But honestly, he’s almost more effective when he isn’t constantly stirring ####. He picked his spots this year perfectly, was a beast on offence, I agreed that he’s the guy.

The only problem, and it's on the ice, is that I just don't think he has credibility or rapport with the refs.
As for the other captain stuff, that's in the room, and who knows what goes on there? For all we know the best in the room is Rasmus or Coleman.
