My greens are 1.8X the season ticket price for round 1, its 3X for round 4 seats

I fail to see how the secondary ticket market and the prices that individuals are willing to pay, which is unrelated to CSEC as a business at all, is any sort of indicator that the City needs to put the screws to CSEC. If anything it shows how valuable the team is to fans that they're already paying ridiculous AFTERMARKET prices to cheer on their team at home.

Out of curiosity, I took a look at attendance for the last five games of the season:
SEA: 85.0% (16,392)
VGK: 88.5% (17,070)
ARI: 87.2% (16,823)
DAL: 89.5% (17,280)
VAN: 90.9% (17,533)
FYI: Saddledome capacity is 19,289.
Small sample size, but it looks like attendance has already started to increase as excitement builds and we get closer to the playoffs. I also imagine a lot of those empty seats are on the outer edges of the press level; because playoff tickets are more expensive I'd expect more of those to sell to people just wanting to get into the building.

See it however you want to, but you don't need to go to those lengths for the first round of the playoffs when teams are making serious bank every single playoff home game to begin with anyway (with a modest playoff bump).
When you see this it's a stark reminder of how this is purely a business. At times I tend to waver in the whole building debate, but this just says it all an reinforces my stance that the city needs to keep putting the screws to this team if they want any public money.
|
I dunno man, I'd rather have the money going to the team than to dirtbag scalpers or rando's on the secondary market. At the end of the day we're fans of the team, if I spend money to support the team I'd rather have that money go to, you know, the team. It's tempting to wish for them to sell tickets low, but just thinking realistically if they sell them too much lower than what the market would bear on the secondary ticket space then a bunch of those tickets get snapped up by scalpers and that price spread all goes into Bronco guy's pocket. No thanks

Has zero to do with what the team wants. It's NHL TV driven.
CBC will want to have a double header with Leafs and either Flames or Oilers.
Dallas and Nashville aren't huge draws of US TV, so they schedule won't get the prime US times which is good for Calgary as they won't get bumped around.
Getbak in another thread found that Tampa has a concert Saturday and LA Friday at Saturday at their rinks, so that plays a role too, as to why there is a better chance the Oilers and Leafs will play Monday Wed Fri (Oilers may have an extra day between games) and Flames will play Tue Thur.

FWIW, the general process is once the series/teams are set, the national TV rightsholders basically trade off who gets their picks for which series.
The nice thing is that EDM/LA will be 8pm starts for every game, so that makes the late slot easy. CGY/whoever also will get 8pm starts when Calgary hosts, which just leaves the eastern teams to really shuffle around.

Also, there is a concert in Toronto next Tuesday and Game 7 of the Oil Kings' series is scheduled for Rogers Place next Tuesday as well (although, it's not likely to be necessary). So, all signs are pointing to those series starting on Monday.
There's also a small possibility that LA could pass Edmonton, Tampa could pass Toronto, or even Boston could pass Tampa, so those match-ups aren't fully set yet. But the chances of any of those things happening are very small.

Is there a chart out there of regular season prices? Since there are no home games left Ticketmaster doesn’t help me
Found it in an old Ticket Exchange post!

Season ticket holders were offered extra seats at reasonable rates considering it’s the playoffs. As an example, Center blues were $203.15 a ticket. For a prime regular season game, face value of this ticket is in the $150-180 range.

Yay! The 8:00 PM starts are terrific as it is better for viewers in the PT.

They are currently setting it up outside the Dome; no details about entrance fees but presumably it will be free like last time.

I am waiting to see who gets that #7 slot. I'm hoping to start pricing out a trip to Nashville.

There has been so much talk about that the first game being on the 3rd, that it sounds like a done deal and just hasn't been officially announced.

They have a Covid season and empty stadium games to make up for.
