Gotta wonder if the NHLPA has a position. Not letting a player get surgery and making him dress? Seems questionable.

Vegas = No good

They asked a player to delay surgery and play for cap reasons when the doctor and player agreed the best course of action was to call it quits for the season.

Now that is going to be a tough one to defend

I'd say Robin Lehner has probably played his last game as a Vegas Golden Knight.

I'm not so sure McCrimmon coming out of Junior understands how to treat pro athletes. Junior players are commodities and really the goal is to build a program that has a reputation for being able to get players drafted into the NHL, but most players are only there for 3 years, so loyalty really doesn't factor in there. When a better player is available and you want that player, you can trade out other guys, and no skin off your back they'll be out of the league soon enough. Not the case in the NHL where these guys have contracts and plans to be there as long as they can.

This isn't junior where another team will take a talented player off your hands. These guys have contracts, and teams aren't lining up to offer fair deals to take the contracts that they want to shed.

The mess in Vegas has the stink of a meddling owner who wants a championship now.

Their decline really is a lesson in hubris. From taking a roster of underdogs who over-achieved thanks to remarkable chemistry and trading away virtually every one of them for mercenary stars; to alienating and dealing away the beloved face of the franchise; to spending the last of their young assets on a petulant superstar whose contract will mean losing another one of the few remaining original band of misfits.

It’s going to be hilarious when they miss the playoffs for the next five seasons. Especially watching Eichel pack up for golf season while the Sabres are playing playoff hockey.

It's funny how we can have different views of Lehner like this. From his appearance on spittin chiclets and other moments he has spoken (31 thoughts once? can't recall), he seems like a decent/funny guy that goes down a dark hole from time to time. Pretty sure he genuinely struggles with mental health from what he says and does. Weight problems from bingeing on fast food, falling out with coaches, etc.

But he won me over as a fan at least with his comments about how he feels towards Islanders and Lou specifically. He wishes it worked out that he could stay, understands why, but feels those fans and team supported him and saved him in a dark moment and Lou threw him a lifeline. Sidenote, how great is Lou....I like that this league has Lamoriello involved.

You never know with mental health...some folks need help and some milk it (there i said it). He seems genuinely in need of help.

We all knew eventually things will start catching with Vegas. Looks like it is. They kept burning bridges with players, and with coaches.

Hopefully Lehner has a successful surgery and has success in a different team, once he gets moved.

They had MAF ready to stay there for good, and the spit in the goalie gods faces by dismissing him after he carried them. I hope they go full Calgary Flames and have 20+ starters before finding another one. Or just never find one, that’s cool too.

too bad Mike Smith is fine where he is, because he'd work for me

Mental health is no joke and I would never make fun of a guy for being honest and putting his mental health first ect.

however, after some of his comments last season I wouldn't have counted on him to be the guy for the most important position on my hockey team with my career on the line. Especially if I had MAF.

Guys come on. This isn't a team that would try to use cap loopholes. We've been told so many times.

Can some one well more versed in the cap and LTIR explain why keeping him on the roster would help with the cap? I would assume moving him to LTIR sooner would give them more room for relief, no?

He can't be put on to LTIR as there are less than 10 games remaining in their season.

I heard it was something with being able to recall an emergency back up goalie. I don’t know the exact rules but I remember something like this happening to Toronto this season as well.

That is not that point anyone has been making. Rather, it is that the issues with LTIR are greatly exaggerated where there likely only needs to be some minor tweaking. Otherwise, I think this season and Vegas's issues have demonstrated that the rules do actually function as intended.

It is going to be hilarious to see VGK struggle for a half decade, but I harbour no ill will toward Eichel. He wanted out of Buffalo because he believed his health was being mismanaged. I think he was right to make that decision, and it kind of sucks for him that he ended up where he did on an aging roster in cap hell with no picks or prospects.

Correct.

Quote:
If a player is considered to have a long-term injury (causing them to miss a minimum of 10 games and 24 days), they can be placed on the Long-Term Injury Reserve (LTIR), which can be used to receive cap relief.
