We took our son to The Bad Guys yesterday and it was utterly fantastic. Hilarious and charming. Highly recommended.

I too watched it last weekend, and as a gauge I thought the first Nolan Batman and the latest Joker movie were greatly told stories from a character development. When I heard Pattinson was signed up, given his past roles I thought it would be fantastic. Especially when they billed it as a investigative film. The previews looked fantastic as well.
So you get to the movie thinking it has everything going for it, with character development and everything, and throughout the movie I was thinking, when is the jibberish going to stop? At times just overly complex in talking about various characters and theories that I was a bit lost in the dialogue (that seemingly made more sense to the people writing it). The movie just didn't pick up steam. I did enjoy the style it was shot in, but it was a pretty boring movie all in all. I'd personally give it a 3/5. Fine casting, but some of Zoe Kravitz's lines seemed like it was completely read. I hope they make another with a more simpler storyline that involves character development instead of trying to make the story complicated.
Everything Everywhere All At Once was fun. Also not nearly as deep as I think the filmmakers intended it to be and way too long, especially at the end.
But certainly a 6 or 7/10.

- It was very competently made
- It wasn't that interesting
- It was too long
There have been a few nights where I have considered watching it but passed because of the run time. I may have to split it into two watches as it's 30 minutes longer than Dune which I thought was on the long side.
My family watched The Mitchells vs. the Machines this past weekend.
Took a while to really get going as they set up the story, but my god what a great movie.
Theme of the move really hits hard in the last quarter of the film.

I disagree. Maybe it depends on your head space at the time but it had me contemplating all kinds of things afterward. Not the least of which was "nothing matters".
Spoiler!
Plus, as a parent, the ending really made an impression on me.
Parasite had a similar humour style and also an outlandish plot and it won best picture, and I thought Everything was all around a better film, in part because of its themes that will hit home for a lot of viewers. That's putting aside the creativity at work throughout.
It was a touch overlong in the third act and that's my only criticism. I've only got praise for it otherwise.
I mean what a ride, and what performances. I fail to think of a recent film that was all of the things that that movie managed to be, while delivering it in such a fun & gratifying way.
The Northman is a well made movie. It has a clear plot with characters that make sense, and a world that follows it's logic. Like Eggars first two movies it is well researched and a feast for the eyes. While it isn't as suspenseful as the Witch or The Lighthouse it is just as surreal.
Kristin Bell, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as coupon scam artists, Vince Vaughn and Paul Walter Hauser as the USPS and Loss Prevention Officer who track them. Really enjoyed it. Funny and charismatic cast elevate what would probably otherwise be pretty run-of-the-mill. Sort of The Informant vibes. Based on a true story apparently.
Holy s###, went into the Northman expecting something different but not extraordinary (fan of the VVitch and Lighthouse), but didn't expect to enjoy my favorite film of the year so far.
That they used Iceland so prominently was just the icing on top. But wow, what a ride. I laughed, cringed and was fist pumping. Coolest final act I've seen in some time, as far as revenge plots go.
Was like a distant cousin of GOT with an Ari Aster tone to it.
10/10.

Yeah I just saw it too and loved it. Even my wife did which was a bit of a surprise. Eggers is fantastic. The Lighthouse was my favourite from 2019.

Haha your wife sounds like a keeper. There was some brutal stuff in this one.
Lighthouse was excellent, albeit not exactly rousing, was very competently made.
His first three features have all been great. Eggers netted the hat trick.
What i can't get over is the attention to detail. The accents in all three films have been on point for their respective time periods. This one must've easily been the hardest. So many rolled r's.
Massive Talent gets an 8 from me, really funny movie

Watched Old Henry on Netflix last night. I thought it was very good. Tim Blake Nelson gives a great performance. Trace Adkins is almost unrecognizable as his brother-in-law. Stephen Dorff was very good as well. The story has a neat turn that heightens the tension. I'd recommend it.
