Even if they make it in, they'll face Colorado first round. And like Sutter has said, facing the Avs first round is a waste of 8 days.

Putting guys on LTIR so you can load your team above the salary cap for a playoff run has one big requirement - making the playoffs. Vegas might never see their team as they hoped they would.

They would face LA in the first round.

He doesnt matter....Stone doesnt matter....Reilly Smith doesnt matter....Alec Martinez doesnt matter...
This is wholly about how the NHL apparently turns a blind eye to Vegas because its the new shiny toy and everyone is out to get other teams who dont matter as much.....or something.
When they all come back in the playoffs....conspiracy on bitch!!!

- Players that are called up to the NHL roster only count against the cap if they are on a one-way contract (they do not have to clear waivers during the playoffs)
- Players that are called up to the NHL roster on two-way contracts do not count against the cap
Using the projected 22-23 upper limit (82.5M) as an example, teams would be able to borrow up to 4.125M against it and apply it to their 21-22 upper limit for the duration of their playoff participation. That money could then be spent on one-way contracts called up to the NHL roster. Teams would also be able to call up two-way contracts at no cost towards their cap. Teams that borrow against next season's upper limit would start that next season with their upper limit reduced by the borrowed amount.
I call this proposal "Injury protection for the playoffs, without being allowed to magically dress a $100M roster for opening faceoff on day one"
|
Just wondering... would an alternate method be that, for the playoffs, the salary cap only applies to whomever is dressed for the game? You can have whoever you want in the pressbox, but the guys you dress for any given game have to be under the cap?

Somewhere Fleury is smiling.
I mean he's always smiling but it might be related to this, at least this time.

It is pretty convenient how these things seem to work out this way for them at the exact right time..

Last week before the game against the Knights, Derek Wills mentioned that he had heard from the local Vegas crew that Lehner had ballooned to 300 lbs in weight from the 250 lbs he's listed at. I imagine that may have something to do with the injury but hard to imagine he could be at his peak carrying all that extra weight.

Saddling their wagon to Lehner was always a risk based on his injury history. It came back to bite them in the ass. I couldn’t feel any better about seeing them not make the playoffs. Logan Thompson isn’t going to do the job well enough. They treated many players like crap including Fleury. Only thing I wanted to see was them beat Edmonton. Now the oilers get to play the kings which is too bad.

Because Thompson has been outplaying him and the team has played more confident in front of Thompson for a while now. The coach even confirmed this.

When Lehner goes on LTIR, do they activate Reilly Smith? or is he actually injured?

Can they even technically put him on LTIR? Doesn’t a player have to miss like 12 game or something? Or does the remainder of games count as that

It will allow them to take Bischoff, Hague, and Howden off LTIR for their last 4 games of the season! Cheaters!

He will not be eligible for LTIR as I understand it.
I've read that the weight issue didn't play into this injury, but is a serious concern going forward. I havent seen anything else saying it's as bad as over 300 but his conditioning has apparently been super questionable.

Not sure having to go with Logan Thompson and *checks notes*... Laurent Brossoit can be considering working out for them

Let's force our expensive goalie signed long-term to have optional surgery that puts him out for the most important games of the season and, should they make it at all, the playoffs so we can rely on an emergency loan goalie with a dozen of games of experience who hasn't been good in his last two games. It's almost foolproof, but we'll make sure no one sees through our crafty plan by starting Lehner then pulling him after a period in which he played fine.
