Just noticed that the Flames are the only team with <200 goals against at 190 all season. The next closest is Colorado with 209.

Their entire season has been zero adversity so this is no different
At first I was thinking about how the Flames had one of the worst schedules to start the season and then the entire team (minus Chucky) came down with Covid leading to their schedule being postponed and dangerously compressed after also losing their captain and defensive leader for nothing in the expansion draft... but then it occurred to me that Oilers fans are so used to watching teams crumble when faced with adversity that they can't comprehend a team just overcoming it when it happens.

Brings a smile to my face.

I know I’m biased, but I don’t know how you could pick either McDavey or Drailiath over Johnny for the Hart.

Points per minutes played, plus/minus, even-strength points, primary assists…Johnny is far more valuable to his team in each of these categories than the fun-twins are…

Ultimately, I figure Matthews gets it because: Toronto. But man. Johnny has been lights-out this year and still seems underrated somehow, league-wide…maybe he gets the Lindsay…?

I think I must have watched Johnny's goal about 50 times.

Just... it's a work of art.

Media drives the hype machine for McDavid, but with Matthews' season and him playing in the centre of the universe, I kind of think he's got it locked up. Johnny will come 4-5 probably.

Staples advises: McDavid and Draisatl, Matthews in third, and a bunch of guys 4-7 that can’t really be differentiated.

On topic, these are the games that would sometimes be banana skins for the flames in previous seasons. Not this year! Keep the slump going boys!

I'm sick of hearing that one from them also. I'm sorry Oiler fans, but the adversity you faced this season was self imposed! Through poor coaching, poor on ice leadership and poor character, to say nothing of a low quality team, you brought on adversity yourselves. The fact the Flames are actually fit, actually well coached and actually listen and work together, is overcoming adversity, rather than just "facing" it. Sorry end rant.

That's a crazy stat. And I think alot of us here were scared during that stretch, but they are one of the best team's in the league since the Allstar break.

Don't care what people say about "spanking bad teams" the Flames have also had a very concentrated schedule in that time span too, and they are getting W's.

I've talked a lot about '86 this season. That year, if you ignored the 11-game losing streak around Christmas, the Flames played at a 100-point pace (with no loser points, which made it a much bigger achievement than now, similar to this year's 110-point pace). People said it was cherrypicking to ignore that, but in fact they did play like a 100-point team in the playoffs.

This year, the worst stretch was that 2-7-1 run before and after the COVID outbreak. Now, I wouldn't want to skew the figures by arbitrarily leaving out the worst 10-game stretch, so let's toss all the outliers and leave out the best 10-game stretch as well. That, of course, was the winning streak – 10-0-0.

If you leave out the best stretch and the worst stretch, the team's record in the remaining games is 35-13-8. That's a .696 point percentage, which is actually better than their record for the season as a whole – even without the winning streak.

This is a legitimately good team that had one mid-season stumble, and then fixed the roster holes with trades. Of course Ms. Downer says it will mean nothing when (not if) they get swept in the first round, but I think we can do without taking her too seriously. Don't you?

I think that there has been a lot of focus on the foundation, doing things the right way, and with a good team doing the right things consistently / most of the time, the results are reflective.

This stuff isn’t voodoo right now

(Regarding the body of work on the whole. Tonight, they were on the receiving end in the third, not a great period, but held on. Good teams have to win some ugly ones too)

Was worth it to tune into the Hawks broadcast for the first couple minutes of the game, hear them almost cry after the Flames scored so early, and refer to Kylington as Kyle-Ington repeatedly. Hard a hearty chuckle, then back to Mark Bell.

Amazing that 13-28-19 has been the top line in the league despite two of the players always cherry picking at the opposition blue line.

Hard to call them cherrypickers when then score while protecting the lead in their own defensive zone. Boy those Greaser fans don't really know much.

Turns out cherry picking is the best defense. Pavel Brendl played in the wrong era.
