I’m gonna say it once and never talk about it again (I hate complaining about reporters/commentators because I can’t imagine how tough that job is) but I can not stand Hazel Mae.

And yeah, we could lay odds, I just thought we'd go simpler and lay out exact wins vs losses, two different scenarios, one with a higher payout.
Fairest would be if 60 wins before 45 losses I'll pay you $200. If 45 losses before 60 wins, you pay me $100.

Fully agree. She once was great, got poached by the Red Sox, and now is terrible. Her questions are bleh and she often stumbles through them.

She is better than that dweeb Barry Davis. But I think Arash is way better and love when he is involved

In fact we didn’t execute with bases loaded and 1 out to put the game completely out of reach

Montoya does seem to be getting better at his bullpen but the team constantly still Makes the same mistakes as 3 years ago

Lol, and the manager is to blame for that? What about the hitters? Or could it be that that baseball is random and incredibly hard? Also the game was already out of reach, because they WON THE GAME! When the Jays came back in the home opener was that because of Montoyo or because of the talented hitters? When Semien set an MLB record for home runs by a second baseman last year, does any credit go to Charlie? If you're going to cast blame towards him for a team not "executing" with the bases loaded surely you can give him praise for the success of Bo, Vlad, Semien, Robbie Ray, Alex Manoah, Jordan Romano, and now Santiago Espinal?

What are the mistakes they're making 3 years ago that they're still making now?

OK. Anyone else? Same terms. 60-45 2 to 1 ratio. Can bet whatever but max is jayswin's bet 200/100.

We'll call it the dunking on girly contest. Deadline is Tuesday before first pitch against Boston.

I'm full of hot takes, I've been here a long time. I still say, the team is being held back by Montoyo.

A fun wager. If the Jays get to 45 losses first I win, 45 wins first, you win

Anyone on my side?
I won't make you bet more cash, I'll just take this bet for fun. Is there any other bet you'd like to make?

How about if I win (Jays hit 45 Ws before 45 Ls), you post your Korean ladies after every win. If you win, you post them after every loss?

By 1980's logic, Adam Cimber would be an early candidate for the Cy Young award with 3 wins at this point in the season. I have no idea what the all time record for wins by a relief pitcher is, I think Dennis Lamp's 12 is the Jays record, but this could be a season where relievers could put up stupid win totals. Due to there being such a short spring, and the fact that few teams have 3 guys who can consistently throw 5 innings there's more opportunity than ever for that one inning guy to get the a win.

I want to see a 20 game winner from a reliever.

The record is 18. Roy Face was 18-1 in 1959!

Most wins in relief, one season

18 - Roy Face, Pittsburgh, 1959

17 - John Hiller, Detroit, 1974

17 - Bill Campbell, Minnesota, 1976

16 - Dick Radatz, Boston, 1964

16 - Ron Perranoski, Los Angeles (NL), 1963

16 - Jim Konstanty, Philadelphia (NL), 1950

16 - Tom Johnson, Minnesota, 1977

Terrible baserunning and fundamental defensive errors are the two big ones that I continue to see. I am also not a fan of how he assembles the lineup (Tapia 5th… I know you want to leverage R/L batting splits but if the lefty can’t hit it out of the Infield it has no effect on the opposing managers strategy)

(I am also concerned on the Jays chase rate this year and inability to get enough walks - but I won’t put that on Montoya- they are being too aggressive this year?

This team is extremely talented . Montoya is a below average manager in my
Opinion. I believe he cost this team the playoffs last year

The difference between a bad manager is probably 2-3 losses over the season vs a good manager is +2/3

That is however the difference between 91 wins and missing the playoffs and 97 wins and winning the division

The little things all add up , and do not see the team getting better at the little things over his tenure

So taking a team from 67 wins to the playoffs to a 91 win team in the hardest division in baseball (more wins than the WS champs and one other playoff team by the way) we better search for made up reasons to diminish the accomplishments of our manager. If the Braves manager who won the WS got his team 88 regular season wins, and Montoyo got his team 91 wins, using your math where does that place Montoyo on the heirarchy of "good vs bad" managers? Reminder the Braves got to play the Mets, Nationals and Marlins a combined 57 times. The White Sox who got 93 wins got to play the Royals Twins and Tigers 57 times too.

Your concerned about a chase rate after 8 games? They walked 5 times yesterday, but again it's a pretty small sample size to draw any sort of conclusions let alone be "concerned" about anything IMO.

3 teams won more than 97 games last year. Seems like a pretty high bar no?

Yea I am concerned on their chase rate - it’s last in the majors

You seem to be confusing “are the Jays good” with “are they good in spite of their manager”

I believe it is the later. I think Montoyas in game decisions cost the Jays , and I don’t think he is great at the fundamentals

He allows the players to get by naturally on their skill - and their skill is better then 80-90% of the league now

Potentially he was a big reason the players developed (I don’t really see it and see the players making the same mistakes they did 2 years ago )but I dont think he is the guy who gets you over the hump and is good enough / focused enough on the fine details

I 100% believe the Jays make the playoffs with an average manager last year.

We had the best hitter , Cy Young Pitcher, 3x silver sluggers , a closer who blew 1 game , the best rookie pitcher in the league , and a 2B who set the HR record

And we missed the playoffs ……

So the major accomplishments like Cy Young winners, record setting 2nd basemen, MVP calibre seasons from Vlad, 6 WAR performance from a SS, grooming an elite closer, all in spite of the manager. That's the talent finding a way. But the "fundamentals" that falls on him. What manager would you replace him with?

We’ll the good managers I know are In the league and aren’t available that’s the GMs job . I’m not claiming I should run the Jays .

But I would gladly take any of the 3 in our division as I think they are all excellent and have no faith in Montoya out managing them

And no I don’t give Charlie A ton of credit for the individuals stat lines - I credit that to the hitting and pitching coaches - who are elite on the Jays

Bad baserunning , poor defensive fundamentals , no sensical lineups and terrible bullpen use (which I will admit he seems to be getting much better at) I attribute to the manager

The lineup looks pretty thin with Springer having the day off today. Hopefully some of the cold bats can wake up and make up for it.
