I realize those were different teams, but with that history, being cocky and already putting these guys in a 2nd round match-up is premature.
Not that anyone is expecting a cakewalk, one thing we know as Flames fans, this team/franchise will not make it easy for themselves. I am certainly hoping for an amazing run, but hey, cliché or not, 1 game at a time. Go Flames Go!

This sums up my feelings. It’s been a great regular season and no one has enjoyed it more than me. But we have seen what happens when this team goes into the playoffs as a high seed, and it ain’t pretty.
We’ve got the division locked down. Im not putting much stock in these remaining games, they are almost like pre-season. It’s a chance for the whole organization to get mentally and physically ready.

This team still ISNT prepared mentally and Darryl has hinted about it quite a few times .
He's stated he's worked hard to get that out of their heads but when that doubt creeps in ( and he's seen it happen multiple times) to locker room its bad news .
It's now time for the Lewisis, Lucic, Coleman's and Z's to show their teammates what has to happen because talking smack won't help.
I can always tell when we're about to have a rough night when the team does or doesn't do the following.
- get traffic in front of opposing goalie....when the opposing teams goalie sees every shot ....we lose .
- playing our pace NOT theirs ....we play down to their level allot sometimes as I haven't seen a 60 minute effort in a while.
- hit the net.....nuff said
- discipline....let's even the score on the board and not in the fisticuffs. Sure beat the snot out of a guy because it feels good right? Sending g the message right? Putting in the foil right coach?
We can play tough as a team through checking , tough defence and a 200ft game . The last thing I want is to be pushed around but I also don't want to come across like teams that have players like Tom Wilson, Evander Kane , Cory Perry running around like imbeciles looking to hurt someone.
The playoffs are such a different beast and we aren't experienced at all for the most part.
I really hope this whole excitement over personal goals (statistics) gets extinguished fast because it means NOTHING if you get in the playoffs and bow out in 4.
So in short ....I hope these guys learn from these games and look right in the mirror and decide what's important.
A 100 point season as a player or team is great but if that player and team can't get it done when it matters then you wasted way more than as Darryl just Said it.....a waste of 8 days .....you've just wasted a whole season.
I don't want to get laughed at like every favorite that killed it in thr regular season and then loses to a team they should have swept......just like what happened to the Cheaters in Tampa a few years back.
End rant.

Jarnkrok, Coleman, Backlund, Mangiapane and Lucic need to start rippling twine. They're all capable of it and we need that of them.
You're not going to turn it on overnight for playoffs. So they have to get that scoring touch and confidence going down the stretch. Same goes for playoff intensity by the team as a whole.
Do whatever you need to do to get to that intensity level around the net where you're going to bang in a garbage goal. Because that's probably where each of them has to start.
With the depth we have acquired the scoring in round 1 should not be entirely on the backs of the top line. The rest of the team owes them some run support. And that doesn't mean "running" around after guys like Kolesar.
It's time to play your best hockey.

Weird game where everything that could go wrong, did. Flames were not sharp at all defensively, but they also had a ton of great scoring chances that they couldn't bury. And they spent too much time trying to get retribution for the hit on Tanev, which threw them off their game.
Burn the tape, get back in the win column next game, and start getting prepared for the playoffs.

Great! It was perfect game result for me. LV is good team and they showed that Flames is good team but if you don't play your best you will have a short run. Players and Coaches saw some weak spots to fix and they have time to correct it until playoff starts.
I think Vegas and Oilers play in the 1st round.

Stone, Pacioretty and Martinez change the make up of that team.
Eichel is working his way back to his old self as well
The path to the finals will go through Vegas and Colorado, imo.

It's really too bad, the flames haven't played a solid, sutter game in a while now. Even in the games they've won.
Hopefully they are able to find their game here in the last set of games here.

Parts of the team are still rolling, like the top guys and Ras/Hanifin, but the group as a whole hasn't been as mean and efficient in its play even thru the cali sweep.
Amazing that they can play such a solid, sound game for 60+ at playoff intensity then pick the last stretch of games to suddenly turn into a team that doesn't look like it knows what it's doing in the d-zone.
Would be extra heartbreak-y of them to actually manage to inspire even the skeptical fans to believe and rip it all away again at the last minute.
Please sort out your #### Flames. I refuse to believe you're fatigued now after playing so well through the condensed schedule which was way worse than this.

Totally agree. It's very concerning to me. They seem to have lost the plot and I'm starting to think we're going to see 2019 part deux.
Hope I'm wrong.

Wow. Bold statement with many, many empty seats in the lower bowl every game and a generally quiet stadium considering what the team has accomplished this year. I wouldn’t even put Flames fans in the top 10. Hopefully come playoffs we up our game though.

I'd rather they Lull a little bit now but it's damn tough to Rev back up gmheading into a series with teams who have been dogfighting for a spot for a month at least.
I want the Flames to go on a deep run but man do they need turn this blip around.

He needs to stop trying to reignite the depth scoring by breaking up the top line.
Instead he should be experimenting different looks in the middle six.
How long has Mangiapane-Backlund-Toffoli been kept together despite their ineffectiveness?
Keep the top line and 4th line as is and mix around the middle 6 until you find something that works.
I’d start with:
Mangiapane-Dube-Toffoli
Coleman-Backlund-Jarnkrok

A lot of those fanbases had a run in recent memory to rejuvenate them.
We haven't had that. And yet fans wear the colors and fill the seats for the most part.
The dome crowd was disappointing earlier on but since February they've been pretty good, as has the team.

I'm pretty disappointed with backlund this year. Outside of a few moments, he's become an offensive dud. That 2nd line C feels like the weakest link on the team in my opinion.

Great playmaker and still effective but can’t hit the broad side of a barn. So inaccurate. I bet you over 50% of his shots miss the net.
But yeah, there’s a crew of Toffoli (to a degree, he’s been… okay to good), Coleman, Mangiapane, Backlund that really could all be better and work harder.
The whole team needs to work harder generally on a consistent basis not two games or three games, let everything go to your head and then float around the next one or two. The team needs to understand they aren’t the most skilled, and they got to where they are bybhard work basically so they just need to return to that.
I actually read the iffy play lately more as they’re just kinda waiting around for playoffs. Hopefully they come prepared to work, grit, battle it out this time and most important of all- believe in themselves, because they can do it. It would help if the crowd returned to 2004 form as well.

I’d take that bet, since about 60% of Backlund’s shot attempts hit the net.
FWIW, Johnny at 55%, Tkachuk at 57%.

Those 60% are soft pitches into the goalie's crest. The other guys are trying to pick a corner, usually.
