Militarized sure, but by the 50s be the side wanted no part of fighting each others directly and instead wanted to fight an indirect empire war.

The Berlin Wall wasn't built until the 60s and was related to restricted free movement to the West as things were better there and free movement was sowing discontent in the population and countering USSR propaganda.

For that matter, China was also up to no good before WW2. Both China and the USSR were allies of convenience to defeat the Axis, but neither were friendly nations, that is for sure.
Even the "good guys" were up to no good. The UK and France were dividing the former Ottoman Empire and Africa to secure their own natural resource interests. You basically had a situation where a lot of older empires were falling apart, and the new powers were trying to expand their influence to fill those voids. WW2 was a bit of a wake up call, which is what it took for many of the Western powers to provide some degree of sovereignty to their former colonial assets.

Unconfirmed yet, but appears that Ukrainian forces hit the russian cruiser Moskva (the Russian flagship in the Black Sea) and going to be out of commission for quite some time to repair. The pitiful russian navy just got even more pitiful

That’s a 12.5k ton guided missile cruiser. Not exactly a small target or cheap and yeah got hit by Ukrainian developed tech. Russia is just not very good at this war thing. Maybe they should call it quits while they can.

I can appreciate being happy about Ukraine pushing back Russian forces, but I can't relate to enjoying any video setting real violent human deaths to ####ty techno. I get it if you're a soldier or someone in a combat environment and it has morale building effects in what is a kill or be killed context, but I don't get the enjoyment of sitting on your couch or at the office in a peaceful part of the world and enjoying watching people die.

Ukraine trolling Russia hard about the ship.

For those not in the know Oleksiy Arestovych is part of the president's office who also gave the loudest 'wink' when the helicopter attack in Belgorod and how it possibly couldn't have been Ukraine that attacked. Absolute must watch.

We're enjoying watching aggressors and their killing machines destroyed because - in the end - it saves innocent lives.

I understand that. I just don't relate to it. Those videos just make me feel sadness more than anything - sad for the family of the people killed, sad for the guys having to be in that situation of killing people and the memories they'll carry with them afterwards, sad for the waste of what could have been peaceful lives. I just see it as an all around pretty tragic situation.

I understand not being gleeful but there is some satisfaction that for every dead Russian soldier there is the potential for one less raped, tortured or killed Ukrainian.

Also there is the point that Russia is lying to their people about the progress of this war. Having videos of them getting setbacks has a non zero chance of sneaking into Russia through VPNs and the like and getting more truth out about the situation. You think Russia would inform them that their flagship got crippled and is now out of action?

The lead paint and asbestos insulation should help slow down the fires, no?

Fewer raped, tortured or killed Ukranians is definitely worth cheering for. I'm on board with that. I just don't find enjoyment in watching the means necessary to stop that. Like, if there was a rabid bear loose in a primary school, I would certainly be glad for that bear to be killed to protect the kids, but I still wouldn't want to watch the video of it being killed set to techno music or feel hyped about it. Even if sharing the videos has value, it's the soundtracks and the general hyped or even humorous tones of so many of these kinds of videos that feels gruesome to me, like a reflection of the sides of our humanity that leads to these situations in the first place.

It's probably the same era as HMS Sheffield that sunk as a result of a missile, 1970's tech, the post mortem on the Sheffield found that the missile generated enough heat that the aluminium hull caught fire, apparently it can burn at a high enough temp, once that started the ship was doomed

Yeah, I get you. And you are right. It is so sad and pointless.

Sounds like it is the techno music that you are objecting to. I actually agree with that.
