It was cool to find out she lived on the same block as Freeway and they traded hockey cards when they were kids.

Speaking of which, I once saw Sandra do pxp for an entire game on her cell phone. It was incredible.

I wonder what the prognosis for radio is. Not an optimistic one, surely. Most my age never listen to the radio and haven't since we had our parents driving us around. Older people are probably changing too. There's no reason to with the availability of music and podcasts unless you are really attached to a daily radio show.

People were subtly giving flak to those who weren't Cassie fans here with the subtext that it was a "female" thing. It most certainly never was. She's a consummate professional but I just don't think colour was ever a strong suit of hers. She's better on the panel IMO.
Hopefully this demonstrates to those people that gender was never a part of the issue. Some people work in the role and some don't, and she just didn't add enough to the games for me, and didn't come across authentic or excited for the Flames.
Sandra sounds like that fellow enthusiast that you'd rehash the previous game with at the water cooler. She gives an emotional perspective of a fan as well on key parts of Flames history. Makes her commentary relatable, as we all were there and felt the same things.
It's leagues better than someone that sounds robotic and like they can't wait to be able to talk about McDavid all the time.

Disliking Campbell's commentary skills is not a gender thing. The seething, hyperbolic hate that surrounds her is a gender thing.
She's not my first choice for colour commentary, but she's also not the bumbling, moronic, Oiler-loving hack that posters make her out to be in every...single...GT when she's on the mic.
On topic, I've only caught Sandra on radio a couple of times so far but her performance and chemistry with Pat feels seamless. I'm a fan.

People are entitled to their hate, even if it comes across hyperbolic.
It's a sport, an emotional one, and at the highest level. And this is a fanbase. A long-existing fanbase.
Flames hockey is how many fans unwind after the day and if they really dislike the way Cassie delivers their product that they pay to be able to watch then so be it.
Maybe it's excessive at times but people here are going to be honest about how they feel.
And if we're going to talk hypothetically I'd say if she was a guy and brought the same performance, oiler gushing (which YES she does do, frequently) & monotone voice, I'd argue that poster may be even harsher.
I'd say its a primarily gender thing for only a small portion. Many are repulsed by the lack of quality and poor timing in the commentary, and its really just that.
At least it is for me, and the way I read even the hate posts people are coming at it from the same angle, they're just more fed up than I.

Has the Fan ever employed a woman broadcaster? It seems like a white-guy only zone, though it's been years since I've listened with any regularity.

Is it though? I'd argue a guy like Hrudey or Millen get just as much hate. I think people in general just have a biased hate on for colour commentary personnel in general if they speak too glowingly of the opposition. I honestly don't think it's a gender thing.

Plus she shouldn’t do Flames games as it’s a blatant conflict of interest with her husband being an AGM for the team.
It is an untenable situation for her.
I don’t understand why she doesn’t avoid it or why Sportsnet puts her in that position.
She either comes across as a homer or trying not to be a homer because she has to call the game knowing people know her husband works for the team.
She can say she isn’t biased, but trying not to be biased is a bias.
It is like trying to swim without getting wet. If Brad works for the games and she calls Flames games her analysis is compromised.
It forces her analysis to not be natural.
Is Kelly Hrudey better? Not really but criticism of him is based on his work not his family.

Jenna Holbrook was on the Fan for a couple years, but that was over 15 years ago.

Apart from the amplified hate for Jim Hughson or the disdain for Gene Principe (that one's justified), the rhetoric around Cassie Campbell is the most toxic re: commentary team on this board. That's my opinion, anyway, and I strongly believe gender is a factor. Although I do believe you're correct in your second sentence.
Of course any random GT shouldn't be taken as the pulse of this board as it's typically the lowest quality segment of CP in general.
