Its funny how majority of Flames fans were writing this team off as basement fodder in the summer, here we are battling out for the #1 pacific seed and we're questioning Markstrom who's been putting up unreal numbers this season? Seems like you'd rather just watch this team fail over enjoy them having a successful season.

Of course I can relax. I'm not in the least bit worried about them passing us but the further ahead of them we are, the more I enjoy it.

Honestly, when looking at the root cause analysis of the behaviour I can understand their pessimism. Darryl laid it out clear as day that this team has not had playoff success in a very long time. A slump at this point in the season can trigger those emotions so that they can better deal with the inevitable broken heart when the time comes.
At the same time, those who are wanting to cheer on the team's success simply because this appears to be the most complete team we've had in years are also not wrong. Analyze both sides of the coin, and you will quickly discover that both groups of fans are correct for their own reasons.
To add to that, those who express negative sentiments aren't "fairweather fans" per se. They care just as much as any fan, and let their disappointment manifest through negative statements when the team underperforms/loses
I was at the game last night. We deserved better but the sloppy d-zone lapses for the goals against were apparent throughout. They need to tighten up defensively. I don't pin the loss solely on Marky.
I understand the pessimism, I also understand the hype. I hope the boys bounce back and go on a heater feeling confident heading into the playoffs.

Coleman to me has been a disappointment. Ice cold offensively for a lot of the season and not seeing enough of the so called intangibles he was supposed to bring as it would be nice for him to do anything when the team is slumping. Hopefully he can hit another gear in the playoffs because this contract could get ugly sooner than we hoped. When you consider how much it’s going to cost to retain Gaudreau and Tkachuk this contract seems like a luxury the team couldn’t really afford.

I have no idea who the cherry picker is on either the Flames or the Blues.
Tkachuk is probably the most talented player on the team, it's just that his hockey IQ is about half that of Johnny's (which has to be near the best in the league). That leads to a lot of uneven stretches, but since his overall ability is so good even when he has a bad game it comes out as 'nothing' instead of being a detriment. I've gotten used to it.
Bingo already responded to the Markstrom bit. I, like others, would like him to get some rest before the playoffs.
Not feeling any dread though. If you're an Oiler fan, I could see some dread in getting through the first round and then having to play the Flames.

Cherry picker was a troll post about Gaudreau which is laughable for one of the best two way players in the league this season.

I haven't liked the lines that Coleman has been on since his arrival. In Tampa he was used as a high octane guy, but here he has always been put with at least one guy on his line that doesn't play the same way, whether it's Backlund or Lewis. I think that it's not taking advantage of his best traits. Jarnkrok it's the same thing.
Would love to see Coleman-Jarnkrok-Dube stick as a third line for a while. That would be a buzzsaw for teams to deal with.
Lucic-Ruzicka-Carpenter would also be an exhausting fourth line.

Coleman knows the difference between regular season and playoffs. He will pick his game up IMO.

He better. He’s getting a lot of money for his worst season since his rookie year.

The guy has 29 points. Last year he had 31. The year before he had 32.

Compare games played for context. He’s not going to hit 20 goals.Hyman for almost the same money has produced big time for the Oilers.

Totally different role and playing with McDrai on the PP
Come on now
Hyman -8
Coleman +13
21 goals for/against swing

Hyman’s a better player straight up. Both of those contracts will age poorly but the Oilers are at least getting early returns.

I’ve been told that +/- is a useless stat.

Disagree, he is bad defensively and only scores with McDrai
They are totally different players in different roles, apples and oranges yet you are only using points.

Coleman was signed to play a role on the team. That is as a defensively sound, relentless forechecker that can play up and down the top 9, without being out of place. Coleman can get close to Hyman's offensive output (probably without surpassing it, as Hyman is just better in that regard), but Hyman doesn't have a chance of matching Coleman's checking and defensive accumen. He's just better there, and overall a more useful player.
The contracts are about equal value IMO, but I could see Coleman's aging better. We will see.

I prefer players that are on the ice for more goals for than against. Best teams have the best goal differential.
It doesn't matter anyway it's not like the Flames passed on Hyman...he went to the Oilers to pad his stats with McDrai. You realize he plays on the 1:45 ice time PP right? His numbers should actually be better.
Which team had improved more from last season? Oilers are worse and the Flames are better.
