I would love if they could draw one of the games against Croatia or Belgium, and then beat Morocco.
That would be hugely successful tournament for them IMO. And would actually give them a chance to go through.

Booked flights and accommodation right after the draw… Canada is making it out of this group.

I have full confidence Canada can get out of the group. This team has so much potential and seem totally in sync. The hardest part will be staying focused for 8 months and coming out of the gate flying.

We've got the Nations Cup games and whatever friendlies get organized for that, and presumably our opponents will face similar challenges. I do wonder though if not going through qualifying for 2026 might hurt our chemistry in that tournament.

Qatar crashed other tournaments in this cycle.
They played in the Gold Cup, Copa America, and they were in Portugal's Group for qualifying, playing whichever team was on a bye. Canada will have to get games wherever they can. Also Asian Cup and Arab Cup.

The Nations league sucks for qualified teams in weaker conferences. We'll be playing countries like Grenada and El Salvador in June which does us no favours.

And one of the opponents this time around didn't exist as a nation the last time Canada was in the World Cup.

Italy could come play a couple of Friendlies in New York and Toronto and probably make some pretty good money on the ticket sales in two markets with a lot Italian Canadian immigrants
Financially i could see it making sense

In his interview with Duthie, Herdman said he thinks it would be a good idea to have a minicamp in Europe and play some European and Asian teams.
THAT makes tons of sense.

Croatia, doesn't scare me anymore. Modric is getting old, throw a man mark on him. Our strikers will dust their rear end.
Knick a point off of one of the first two, and beat the Moroccan's. And hope we have a strong enough GD, to squeeze through.

This is pretty much how this is going to go down.

In 2026, will each of Canada, USA and Mexico be in Pot A?

Match schedule...
At that time of year, it looks like there's a 10 hour time difference between Calgary and Qatar, so Game 1 vs. Belgium is at noon on Wed. Nov. 23, Game 2 vs. Croatia is at 9:00am on Sun. Nov. 27, and Game 3 vs. Morocco is at 8:00am on Thu. Dec. 1.

So if Canada makes Round of 16, it's most likely Germany or Spain there. December 5 or 6 at 8 AM MT.

Would be a treat.

Yikes. I think I'd rather face Spain...and not just because I cheer for Germany...

No. First of all, there's no guarantee that any of them will be granted automatic qualification, although it appears likely. In 2026, the plan is to have sixteen groups of three each, so all three of the host teams will be kept apart.
The whole idea of having the host country be the top seeded team in Group A is to allow the host country to have a chance of getting out of the group stages by having an easier draw. They miss out on having to play any of the top seven teams.
