Military targets are fair game in war time. So long as the UKR forces avoid attacking civilians, this is a perfect dose of reality to the Russian people that the actions they are supporting come with consequences. Taking out some railways / and supply yards would be perfect too.

At this point it goes without saying, but balls of steel on those UKR pilots. Remarkable stuff.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/...-says-liveblog

This is a "live updates" format, but Ukranian Security Council Secretary Oleksiy Danilov says they didn't. If they didn't do it and it was a false flag, the reason for the false flag would be justifiable escalation.

In this live updates, China has come out and blamed the US for this war. Finger pointing between China, EU, and US ramping up.

Not sure I like these trends.

April 1st is their normal cycle. Usually the Spring consciption has a quota of about 160,000 young men between 18 and 25. The Fall session is usually the same size or slightly larger.

Putin's announcement might mean either they increase the consciption to about 300k, which sounds impossible because they don't have the training cadre and infrastructure to possibly train that many new recuits at a time. They could also simply be jamming the full years conscription into the spring draft and reducing the fall intake.

The ultimate goal of the annual two cycle is to conscript 400k all together to replace the 400,000 that are leaving as their mandatory service is up.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the training cycle for the spring induction is reduced from the theoretical 6 months down to half that. That would actually be the real story that gives insight to the level of losses.

More discontent in the Russia. A large group of Russian National Guardsmen are suing Putin's government refusing to be deployed to Ukraine. This comes after the Kremlin tried to deploy them to Ukraine but many refused and 12 were fired. These are forces outside the normal RuAF regulars that "shouldn't" have been sent into Ukraine, just like conscripts weren't.

Quote:
After Mikhail Benyash, a Russian lawyer, said he would be defending a group of national guardsmen who refused to join the war in Ukraine, he was inundated with calls from across the country.

“A lot of people don’t want to go and fight,” Benyash said by telephone from the southern city of Krasnodar, adding that about 1,000 people had been in touch with his team, as he pursues the first court case to officially reveal dissent inside the ranks of Russia’s security forces over the invasion.

The 12 national guardsmen who were fired after refusing to go to Ukraine were members of Rosgvardia, a militarised force separate from the army that was established in 2016 to maintain public order and fight crime.

The guardsmen had been deployed before the invasion to occupied Crimea for military exercises, according to Pavel Chikov, head of Agora, the Russian human rights group. The day after the war began on February 24, they received orders to cross into Ukraine but refused, Chikov wrote on his channel in the Telegram messaging app.

The men argued that the order was unlawful: they were not soldiers, but members of a domestic force whose duties did not extend beyond Russia.

These things scare the Russians as there are no countermeasures to these from the Russian air force. Can't fool them since they are laser based so chaff and flares don't work, neither do radar jammers. Can't outrun them since they fly at mach 4, faster than any of Russian fixed wing or choppers or Stingers. Laser dazzlers and active protection systems that might work are too heavy to mount on aircraft.

Real shame the Russians used up all their guided munitions in Syria and the first month of the Ukrainian war so they gotta fly real low now to attack, right into range of infantry hiding in the woods waiting with their Starstreaks.

So once again why does Canada need new fighter jets? Just procure a million drones and anti aircraft weapons.

Also after this 2022 war are tanks obsolete now?

I actually fully agree with this. A fleet of thousands of high-tech drones of multiple varieties seems like a way, way better investment than fighter jets. Humans should be in control booths hundreds or thousands of miles away from the fighting.

If they were Russian they would have accidentally hit a few condos and a hospital.

The Ukraines should 100% go after Russia with those long range American drones.

They can all be manned by 40 year old guys living in their parents basement. No physical training required!

In a war fighter jets would be needed for air interdiction, air superiority, and long range strikes. i.e. prevent your infantry from getting bombed to hell, shooting down enemy aircraft, and bombing enemy infantry. Drones can be jammed and shot down easily if you have air superiority and proper air patrols, which the Russians don't have due to fumbling the initial strikes. And a proper airforce with enough guided munitions would take care of anti-aircraft weapons at far longer ranges than MANPAD systems like Starstreak, but Russians ran out of and misused all of those munitions. Basically if you want to do any type of offensive operations outside your home turf, you'd need fighter jets to cover infantry advance.

Tanks are not obsolete, but Russians are using obsolete tactics and/or tanks. Tanks are still plenty effective in destroying IFVs and other tanks but only in situations where they are properly supported by infantry and covered by air support. i.e. combined arms. Newer tanks have Active Protection systems that will shoot down anti-tank missiles all day, see Trophy (not a single Isreali Merkava tank has been lost to ATGMs ever fighting in dense urban conditions), Afghanit, GL5, Quick Kill, etc. but Russia only have a handful of modern post-cold war era tanks and they badly misused their armor... actually, badly misused all of their entire armed forces and logistics based on a combination of incompetence and corruption. Russians are trying to fight a cold-war era invasion on horrible intel, against modern weapons and tactics. Russians are also not using the majority of their firepower either like heavy artillery, which would normally shred unarmored infantry, to "limit" casualties and prevent bad domestic optics.

No not if you know how to properly employ and deploy them on the battlefield

Russia appears to know neither

First confirmed russian soldier radiation fatality, one of likely many more. Turns out that digging trenches in an exclusion zone is a very bad idea.

Congratulations Putin - you are reliving the USSR.

First air strike on russian soil since WWII
First new russian soldier radiation deaths as a result of Chernobyl since the soviet collapse
Quickest amounts of deaths in a war since WWII's Battle of Berlin
The food famine of the 1930s coming soon
Return to Soviet Union GDP...on its first day in 1922...

And this has only been a month!

It gives the Russian government the illusion of a democratic society with a functional justice system.
