I remember Rhett commenting on the 2006 Flames loss to the Ducks and basically how Sutter was all over them to win the division and they were just burnt out by the end of that first round series which came after a lost lockout season.
This is the first time the team has played 82 games since 2019 and have had 2 shortened seasons so I can see them being mentally and physically tired. They will need to ramp it up to avoid slumping into the playoffs.
I don’t see Darryl taking his foot off the gas.

I imagine Darryl fully knows this team has a bit of a history of not wilting down the stretch of seasons. I think it's something that he will hopefully iron out with this group and make sure they are ready to go in the playoffs.

I agree that they are a bit worn out right now, but I think it plays out differently. They have enough of a lead that they can cruse the rest of the way and be rested and ready for the playoffs.
If you're going to have a down spell, you want it to be a month before the playoffs so that you have time to pull back out of it

Speaking of bit worn out.. any concern on Markstorm:
4th in GP and 7th in shots against( 2nd in the west in SA amongst playoff goalies) only Saros has faced more shots amongst expected western playoff teams...

Sutter is not going to relent and give them a break, that isn't how he coaches IMO.
And as great a coach as he is, it always come down to the players on the ice and their ability to push through a long season and overcome adversity when it inevitably arises.
I don't pretend to know how the playoffs will go but sure feels like the team is due for some success.

I remember seeing some stat awhile ago how many of the cup winners of years past has had at least 1 significant injury during the season, suggesting that perhaps there is something to an important player getting a bit of a rest during the season.
It's crazy how healthy the Flames have been this year (touch wood)
The covid break was something, but they still played 82.

Sarich said in 2004 Tampa also were fortunate with injuries. He said they only lost something like 29 man games due to injury that year which was the lowest in the league.

Yeah, staying healthy is not a detriment to winning.

LA just played a very safe, boring, defensive game and capitalized on the chances the Flames gave them. Flames with a more flubbed passes and giveaways than usual last night and it cost us. Must be a frustrating game for guys like Johnny, but credit the Kings for playing a system that gets them very boring wins while some of their top guys are dealing with injuries.
I think what might be getting lost in all this talk about the lack of secondary scoring is that even with the entire bottom nine being relatively snake bit, we still only lost by one goal in each of the last two games, and the Flames were not on their A-game.
I have no doubt the team will get back to their dominant ways come the playoffs, this last stretch of games is all about securing enough points for home ice and staying healthy (knock on wood). Hopefully we see more of a return to form on Saturday though. My money is on Sutter throwing his lines back into the blender to get guys going offensively.

I find it a bit concerning....I really wish Vladar would get some starts, both from a rest perspective for Marky, but also from the readiness/depth school of thought. You all know what I mean by that, but I am not going to type it...
I'd like to see Vladar get at least 7 of the remaining 15 starts. Marky still plays, but gets 100% healthy and rested for the playoffs.

Markstroms game has definitely deteriorated over the last few weeks, likely due to his workload for sure. The amount of soft goals he’d normally save is staggering, coupled with what looks like a tired forward group makes for a rough finish here. I hope we’re able to bounce back here and earn some days rest for our big guys.
Slumping going into the playoffs would be a bad thing, especially when the games get tighter and the whistles go away.

Markstrom was the reason they got a point last night in my mind.
And not sure I see a deterioration, he had a .925 save percentage in March. His only "off" month all season was December where he only played 5 games.
Oct .957
Nov .926
Dec .897
Jan .914
Feb .929
Mar .925
He's fine.

They're still not going 2 consecutive games without picking up a point which i'm glad for.
I can live with this one solely because it sets the Oilers back, and we still gain a point.
Now hurry up and get on your horse Vegas.

They did their job and beat the Oilers 9-5. I wouldn't even mind if they lost the next game. priorities people!
