That’s great, and like I said, he’s having a great year. I still wouldn’t rank him in the top 10 forwards. It’d be hard to put Gaudreau there and he’s better then Tkachuk.

You think there are 10 better forwards than Johnny?

They are being compared because we are going to lose good players this off-season.

IMO defenceman are more valuable than wingers to overall success. I think willing their team to any type of success eluded tachuck and at 9 million per year I would look elsewhere to invest that money. Look at MacKinnon willing his team to a win vs us in 2019. And big Z was a large part of that but not what won them that series. It was one player who broke the flames will. Tachuck isn’t that caliber of player.

MT isn’t that much of a game breaker to me. His advanced stats I think are a by product of playing with a selke candidate and a hart candidate.

Plus no one has engaged the other point I was trying to make about Z. He’s so big and nasty that I don’t think we can replicate that anywhere in our system. Who else even comes close to him on the FA market?

It’s just a tough spot to be cap wise and I like JG and Big Z over JG or Matt T.
With his advanced stats you could probably get quite the haul for tachuck. We have Coronado and Pelletier coming. We don’t have much beyond kuznetsov in the large and nasty department.

I keep Jonny over chucky. And maybe we can keep big Z if tre works his contract magic.

Intimidation is a valuable skill to possess in pro sports and it’s why tachuck is second to big z for me come July 1st.

LOL "That Johnny Gaudrea is no Elias Lindholm."

I mean, I'm hard as hell on Johnny, and have wavered on the "is this guy truly elite or does he just have moments of brilliance" question, but this year he's really turned it up in all kinds of ways.

Mackinnon
Crosby
Barkov
Huberdeau
Kucherov
McBaby
Drai
Matthews
Stone
Ovechkin
Aho
Barzal
Marner

I’m just spitballing here. Not easy to slot them. I’m not saying they’re all better, just showing it would be closer then one might think. Like I said, Tkachuk is having a great year, but I don’t know that you can base all his value off of one year.

No, I actually don’t. But it could definitely be debated.

He's an emerging superstar, he's just 24, what are you expecting? He was almost a point per game in both 18-19 and 19-20, then had a down year in 2021 along with the entire team. I think you're seeing the true Matthew Tkachuk this year. And all the advanced stats seem to point to him being top 10 in the league.

As for Johnny, he's been better this year than any of the guys you listed. It does, however, remain to be seen how he plays in the playoffs.

What is with peoples' love of Barzal?

He's a good player, but he shouldn't be anywhere near that list.

Yeah, I was a big fan but then I watched for a bunch of games in a row and people here would hate his inconsistency. I think there’s a fair bit of highlight reel bias there.

Yeah he gets a big “ha ha Edmonton” bump.

I really hope not, because that will surely mean we've lost one of our star forwards if we're able to fit his new contract in.

I do, but I really think he's gonna be looking for more than the Flames can afford.

Even if its the same salary it’s prohibitive.
