Welcome all you newbies to a typical Concacaf game the last 30 years, once a team goes ahead.
But, that was offside. Close, but offside.

You're never watched an offside replay on Paramount+, and it shows.

Not going to lie, we'll probably not win this one, but Canada is the better team. It shows.

That’s the thing though, you watched a replay to determine that. MegaErtz simply stating the AR shoulda had it is laughable. It’s not easy to look down the line as an AR.

Soccer seems like such a pure, brilliant sport at it's heart, but then officiating and player shenanigans make it so hokey and second rate to watch for the most part. I try so hard to like it.
Watching grown men barely get tapped and then lay on the pitch screaming and holding their legs for extended periods of time on a regular basis is bizarre and absurd.

I really wish they would change the rule so that as long as any part of the body is in-line it’s onside.
Hate that a foot or shoulder can be offside and it gets called back.

The law used to state that you were offside if you were past the third to last defender, not the second to last as it is now. Allowing attacking players to be a step in behind the second to last defender (as the goalkeeper is normally the last man back) would mean lots of long balls over the top and teams wouldn't be able to push up and play a high line. It would be like an entirely new sport.

So did the AR get to watch that replay? That’s why he “should have had it”?

Qualifying games in 3rd world countries are always a shambles. I mean Panama is diving for 5th place pathetic. The African crap yesterday too.
Watch the World Cup in November, this crap isn't tolerated.

They looked tired, Larin and Hoilett were solid once they entered the fray.
I was happy to see Kaye get the start. I think he’s still an important part of this team with his passing ability. Koné, pumped about him getting the start but yikes! But he’s 19 and it’s only up from here!
Let’s not forget the most important thing. WE’RE GOING TO QATAR!!!

I doubt it would change it that much, wouldn’t be close to a “new sport”
Likely what changes is a lot of these close calls that go the way of the defense now would fall in favour of the attacking team.
With VAR nowadays those are the little tweaks that likely need to be made. In the past that would have been a goal 9 / 10 times because at full speed in the flow of the game it’s a hard call to spot. IMO the spirit of the offside rule was never intended to call back goals like the one tonight
But now with VAR those situations where a players shoulder is offside get called back and IMO it’s not as good for the game as a whole.

Clear we have a 1a) squad and 1c)
Herdman probably could've started this crew, got a goal or two, and then let's the plugs like Cavalinni and Kaye hold on. Even Buchanan looked poor.

Disappointing result but what a heck of a qualifying campaign. We're unlikely to see a team come and string together a series of results like that again. Barring a huge stroke of luck and getting drawn into Group A, we're looking at two top Europeans teams and possibly a South American team in the group stage. Going to need a miracle to get into the second round.

Panama played the game they had to in order to win. Canada thought they could roll out whoever they wanted and just show up and win this one. This will be a good learning experience moving forward for all involved.

I don't think they'd be close calls, because attacking players would be looking to line their heels up with the heels of the second to last defender. In essence, you'd end up with a hugely stretched field with both central defenders on both teams unable to push up past their own box for fear of a speedy striker catching them out. All the attackers would have a five yard head start by the time the defender would turn around.

So to the draw. We're in Pot 4.
I think South America is down this year with the exception of Brazil. I'd like to face one of Argentina in Pot 1 or Uruguay in Pot 2. And perhaps a Morocco/Tunisia. in Pot 3.
If we don't get Group A I'd like to see a draw like
Argentina
Switzerland
Morocco
Canada

There needs to be suspensions given out after the game, at the very least. Whatever it takes to get the diving out of the game.

That doesn't happen if Panama is tied or behind. It is just to delay the game 2 minutes where the ref will only add 30 seconds.
