It's almost like the team is punished for the opposition committing an infraction with less than 2 minutes left in the period.

Even worse was the Oilers penalty after the buzzer on Saturday.
Having a penalty carryover, sure, team already got offensive zone draw to start. But when the penalty is at or after the buzzer the team is robbed of that benefit.

I believe it's because of the digital advertising ring. It reflects off the ice and will change from a very dark ad to a light ad mid-play.
