All I can say is I'm hoping I'm never on a jury with some of you.
For the people who say Vegas isn't taking advantage of the LTIR loophole - what evidence - short of the league calling them a cheater - would change your mind? Its seems wildly obvious they were trying to take advantage of the loophole.
Its a legal loophole - so bully to them for doing it (even though it is going to backfire on them). But I just don't see how any can be convinced that wasn't their plan all along.

Who cares? They are going to miss the playoffs anyway.

What is the loophole and how does it work? It sure as hell is not working for VGK.

Actually the burden of proof rests with those making the accusations.

It is the playoff situation that matters most. It doesn't make sense to allow any team to ice an $81.5mm roster.
For the regular season, while I think Vegas is playing within the existing rules (and hopefully the NHL is monitoring the medical conditions of all LTIR players), what I don't understand is how the rules can be so loose if not cap compliant. Lose cash and draft picks, but they can still ice a $90mm roster? Boo hoo. I can't see a forced trade to shed cap.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.
You're implying that they knew in advance exactly when those players would be ready to return, when at the time of the Eichel trade, most of those injuries had not even happened yet. Prescience indeed!
As other posters have pointed out, Martinez could have been activated at any time in the last two weeks, just by moving another player from IR to LTIR. He wasn't, which should be sufficient evidence that he was returned as soon as he was ready. I don't think the Knights kept him out of the lineup just for giggles, do you?
If they are so short on bodies why did they try and give away a decent player in Dadonov at the deadline? For shots and giggles? They obviously had a use for that cap space in mind.
If they sneak I to the playoffs multiple players will make a miraculous recovery for round one and we all know it.

Right. Because they knew they were going to need cap space later in the season, but the trade deadline was the last day they could trade away a player. Not trading Dadonov puts them right in the soup.

No, you think you know it. That's because you don't believe any of the players are really injured. You think they could come back at any time and there is a giant conspiracy by the league to give Vegas an unfair advantage.
You have been very clear about this delusion from the start. Except that until recently, you also thought you knew that they were going to make the playoffs easily.

You would make a better case if you actually listened...I have never said anyone was not injured just that it would be handled different if not for the cap, guys aren't 100% (who is) It's a league problem not a Vegas problem, Vegas has just been more egregious.
They didn't try and give away Dadonov so they would have cap space a few weeks from now when it will likely be too late.
As much as I hate Vegas I almost want them to make it so I can see how you spin it when most or all of their injured guys just happen to recover for round one.
Speaking of delusional
I'm willing to bet that multiple LTIR players will be ready in round one if they make it...odd nobody wants to take that bet.
direct quote from Treliving:
“And the league does a very good job; you can’t just put somebody on LTI and add to your cap without the league going through that with a fine-tooth comb. There’s been legitimate injuries. The way the system’s set up, you can do certain things. I don’t necessary look at it as abusive. Are there areas that need to be tightened up? Maybe. But the sentiment in the room there wasn’t that it’s fundamentally broken.”

For me I would need to see proof that a doctor had cleared a player to play but Vegas kept them on LTIR after that. Or proof that their doctors were purposely misdiagnosing players on the team's behalf.
In the absence of any of this all we have is pure speculation and posters going off a gut feeling.
Also, it's not even a loophole. It was designed to work this way. It's written clear as day how this works. Vegas is using the system exactly as intended. I think there's a fair debate to be had over if this system is a good system or not, but it isn't a loophole. It's available for all teams to use, and given the chance I'd hope the Flames would use it too.
Your argument has always been that Vegas could return these players to action at any time. That logically entails that they are fit to play.
Saying that people who disagree with you are out of their minds is not a good argument. But it's all you've got, really, so you keep trotting it out.
And you keep putting words in my mouth
Vegas makes the playoffs and multiple guys are back because the cap doesn't matter anymore. I almost hope they do as opposed to the Oilers getting rewarded with a free playoff spot and an easy matchup.
Vegas tried acquiring the contract of a player who is retired on LTIR. They either did it to avoid having to deal with cap issues by taking advantage of the LTIR system, or because they just like paying salaries. It's impossible to know for sure.

The #1 thing I have a problem with is when a team uses its LTIR to acquire another player off of someone else's LTI list. How is it considered long-term injury RELIEF when you use it that way?
LTIR is intended to help a team recover from a long-term injury. How did using it to acquire Jack Eichel allow them to plug a hole in their active roster?
