Finely crafted bull#### statement from his PR firm. The true indication of who this guy is can be found in the incoherent and selfish speech where he employed the refuge of a scoundrel, crying about God's plan and how he's being tested. Barf.

Franchise or legacy movies that have Will Smith in them do fine, as one would expect them to.
Movies that star Will Smith flop and have one right after the other for over ten years. King Richard probably would've bombed too even without covid.
Well I mean go ahead and name some big money making films of the last decade that aren't franchise or legacy movies. If you want to exclude those, then no actor is a box office draw anymore.
Not going to defend Hollywood or suggest he should've gotten it at that point either but Polanski got his last Oscar in 2002, twenty years ago, a lot has happened in terms of acceptance since then.

Although they could have taken it away after the fact, particularly in 2018 when they revoked his membership to the Academy.

Chris Rock was being an inconsiderate prick and Will Smith behaved like an immature child. Nobody was the good guy here.
He’s a comedian. And he was reading a scripted and approved joke.
I mean, people get that the jokes at the Oscars (and other awards shows, talk shows, etc) are all written by a team of writers, and then approved by head writers, show runners, and producers, right? Because judging by the reaction to this incident, a lot of people don’t seem to understand that.

I looked up alopecia, and it just effects hair follicles. It's like the baby cousin of male pattern baldness. I guess that it is upsetting because in this case a woman is involved and that is unusual.
I guess that this is a medical condition. It's the angry George Costanza of medical conditions, though.

I am generally surprised that Rock is getting any backlash. He was doing his job which is to make jokes good or bad. It's like a large portion of the population is largely ignorant of comedians and roasts. This is 100% on Will Smith and if anything my admiration of Rock has grown as he has taken the high road.

The backlash over the joke is dumb, but it’s not surprising. A lot of people simply don’t get or like standup comedy. They feel it’s too mean. Or it’s fine when the target of a joke is someone they hate, but they turn into humourless scolds when they disapprove of the target.
What is really astonishing, though, is how someone was struck in the face while doing their job in public, and they’re not considered the victim of the incident. That people can twist themselves into such knots trying to strike a pose as defenders of decency that an act of actual violence gets disregarded.
