Almost certainly more entertaining than the actual Oscars...

Oh, this will be making it into South Park. You can be sure of it.

Yeah I think tossing him out of the establishment would have been the appropriate response. That's what I would expect if someone behaved like that at a party or at a bar.

I don't know. I try to picture similar real life scenarios. One slap at a house party probably that quickly diffuses probably doesn't get someone kicked out if everyone is invited guests. I'm sure there have been plenty of weddings where a brother or friend slaps another guy or worse, and everyone talks everyone down and carries on.
Yeah, a patron slapping a bartender probably gets the boot and possibly violently. This is more a peer to peer thing and I'd guess in most cases, the group around them would try to calm everyone down and move on.

RIP bar fights. Now even a bar slap is enough.
In the instance of an awards show though, yeah absolutely.

Yeah a slap at a house party probably ends with someone leaving of their own accord, like their friends suggesting they go cool off or whatever. As opposed to being thrown out the door.

Basically, it went
Will: Haha! Chris is funny.
Jada: Chris is not funny.

So would I, there's no one left actually on the air who can be trusted to address it. I certainly don't give a #### what Fallon thinks about it, that obsequious twat is probably going to have a moment of silence and refer to Smith as "brave" multiple times. Kimmel might poke fun at him, I guess.
Letterman, we miss you.

In his attempt to defend Jada's honor, Will Smith has inspired Matt & Trey to absolutely eviscerate her and her condition in an upcoming episode.
And Matt & Trey show no mercy to anyone.

Is Will going to pull a 'Jay and Silent Bob' and fly to their houses and slap them?

Twitter is generally a cesspool but in my heart of hearts I truly believe it was invented for times like these.

Haven't gone through the whole thread. Neither Will nor Jada have watched GI Jane, and know it's about a woman overcoming great odds to achieve what was considered unachievable, a story about empowerment, and the shaved head was just a gateway for Chris Rock to get to what was at it's core a compliment.... I guess.
"I don't understand the joke." Slappy slappy.

The Academy says they do not condone violence in any form. Also Smith here is your Oscar and a gift bag let's party.

One guy I follow's commentary made a great point
This sucks most for comedians if Will's actions are excused by Hollywood.
It sets a precedent that makes it so that no joke is necessarily safe, and that they can get physically assaulted for even a 6/10 burn. It's already a tough gig, and now they may have to work with this possibility lingering at the back of their minds, even at an event where most would assume you're safe to do your job.

This situation is nothing like a houseparty or a bar tiff. This is a televised event, a black tie formal event. The closest analogy would be a wedding or a work/industry event.
If the speaker made a poor taste joke at someone's expense (or wife's expense) you address it after like an adult. Maybe the speaker gets an opportunity to address it after and apologize to the people.
you don't go on stage and assault the person. What kind of janky party is that

The Academy is an embarrassing joke because they didn't immediately remove him. They gave him an award minutes later and applauded him.

Telling jokes about somebody's medical condition is definitely crossing the line and deserving of losing the chance to host again.
