Honestly that speech is so insanely ####ed up after what he did, you can really tell he believes his #### truly doesn't stink.

Even his speech after, it was all about how amazing he was and patting himself on the back for defending his wife. Not a single word about his wife or about how Rock should apologize.

Everything Will did tonight was about himself and proving what a big man he is. When really all he did is prove how weak and pathetic he is.
See the post and quote by Dion, you nailed it. Smith is ME ME ME ME ME ME.

It wasn't a punch, it was a slap.

His speech was awful.

His talk about him “protecting” the women in the movie gave my the willies (no pun intended).

Why do I feel like Oprah's next interview is going to be with Will and Jada, talking about how hard their lives are?

What's even more bizarre than Smith's reaction was that Chris Rock would even tell that joke to begin with. Probably more than any other man, he understands the complicated and sensitive relationship many Black women have with their own hair. How does he know this? In 2009, he produced and narrated a documentary film about that very subject.

He seemed completely unaware of why Will was so upset after it happened. It does make me wonder if he knew she has the condition. The joke was very clearly off the cuff.

I feel for Jada more than anyone else involved. I’m sure she was absolutely stunned and devastated seeing Smith up there acting like an idiot in front of millions of people.

And in case anyone was wondering, allegedly the reason why the camera kept cutting to the Oscars logo during Will’s speech when they were showing the Williams family is because Venus had a wardrobe malfunction and had to cover her exposed breast with her hand.

Was that a genuine laugh or a Joe Pesci in Goodfellas about to murder you laugh?

Quick Google search shows that Rock and Smith go back a long way, professionally and personally, and there are no shortage of pictures of the two buddying it up.

Edit- not implying it was staged though. No way.

No one reacted the way people react for real violence, when Smith walked onto the stage, supposedly out of control and angry Rock just stood their waiting for him rather than backing away, nor did Rock particularly flinch when Smith went to hit him or back away afterwards, he knew Smith was going to turn around and walk away after he just stood their and then made a joke about it

I've had to break up enough real violence with anger and fear to know bull#### when I see it

It was a tame joke, no one said it was highly offensive. It’s still pretty classless. Although most people seem to think Rock was unawares and likely wouldn’t have made the joke had he known.

Let’s also not forget that Wanda Sykes had made a joke earlier in the broadcast implying she could have sex with Will and Jada wouldn’t mind because they’re in an open marriage. It seems possible that Will was already on edge.

Seemed pretty genuine to me.

I’ve definitely gone down a rabbit hole tonight and kind have spun a narrative about this in my mind. Will and Jada’s marriage has sucked for 10-15 years. And they’ve held it together likely because of Scientology and all the crap that entails(let’s not forget they’re Scientologist because that #### is all kinds of ####oo). So these two people secretly hate each other but are together for reasons. That’s why we get over the top displays of affection from time to time from both of them. And then there’s the whole open relationship angle their PR people have been spinning. It’s all a guise to try and fool people into thinking they are a perfect couple. Alopecia can be brought on suddenly because of stress. Jada is probably stressed all the time from being captive in a ####ty marriage and wrapped up in Scientology. Will has probably cracked some jokes about her hair loss, because again, they hate each other. So a hair joke struck a nerve with Jada. Will thought the joke was funny but Jada didn’t. So Will foresaw a ####storm coming his way from Jada, and ruining his Oscar night, so he boiled over inside and tried to save face in a super awkward way so he wouldn’t have to deal with Jada.

Edit. TLDR I’m bored and revelling in this drama lol.

Or, and here's a thought, laugh and shrug it off completely.

Or, and again another thought, recognize this is another example of Will Smith exemplifying what he is, except he amplified it.

He just slapped another human being on stage in front of the entire world because he is an insecure, vanity case. He always has been.

He's not the devil, he's just a garbage human being.
