He doesn’t win the Hart because the voters don’t care about EVP and the voters don’t care about +/-.

At least not in any meaningful way that would swing the vote and give Johnny the win.

I’ve looked back through various points stats, and the 1995-96 season is the end of an era - there’s a sharp decline in scoring after that year.

Being the highest total since that season is quite remarkable, if he gets there.

I am with Sutter - regular season individual trophies are not what players should be playing for. Great that many of the Flames are in the running for those trophies - shows the depth of the tam.

I would be happy to see Johnny win the Conn Smythe tho.

They are less high profile stats for sure, but if he posts the best numbers in 26 years, it'll get attention. A lot of attention.

I hope so. But even with this type of hot streak as the season winds down, I’m not even confident he’ll be a finalist.

I'd have to look at the history of the award but I think one of the bigger things working against Gaudreau for the Hart is that he plays on the best line on one of the best teams in the league. It's not a one man show amongst the forward ranks.

I doubt it happens but I'd love to see him get some serious attention for the Ted Lindsay award.

Matthew's is 7th in points and the Leafs are 4th in their division. I'd pick Huberdeau ahead of him. I'd say Kaprizov is a lot more impressive as well. Looking at the possible finalists I think Johnny is just as deserving as anyone. I think he could definitely get major consideration depending on how he finishes the season.

I would be surprised if Gaudreau is even a finalist right now. He would have to win the Art Ross to even get there.

Have to remember the bias that there is towards eastern players in big markets or players that have been marketed as the face of the league… that’s why Matthews will likely be the front-runner no matter what happens for the rest of the season.

Yes of course but I'm just trying to look at things as unbiased as possible. That might not be reality but I think what Kaprizov is doing is way more impressive than Matthew's.

Even with his impressive stats, Johnny is a player you have to see in order to appreciate how much of an impact he really has. Unfortunately eastern voters don't stay up until midnight to watch the Flames.

The Lindsay is voted on by the players themselves. I could see Johnny get some serious consideration. Won't be enough though.

At this point he should be a finalist in a very close race as to who wins. I just don't see how McDavid and Matthews do not end up as two finalists. Deserved or not, I just see those two being in most voters top 3.

The third finalist would come down to Shesterkin (my guess) Gaudreau, Huberdeau, and maybe Josi?

He also has a reputation for being more of a one-way player.
Something he should be completely eradicating with his play this season. But again, if you aren't watching him every game, people will have their own pre-formed opinions.

The Flames SHOULD have several up for awards:
Sutter: Jack Adams
Johnny: Pearson (is that the NHLPA MVP one?) and Hart
Vezina: Markstrom (though it will go to Shesterkin)
Selke: Lindholm (Bergeron will win it)

The players seem as susceptible to reputation voting as media sometimes.

If Josi gets 100 points (at 81 points now), I think he should win the Hart. No defenseman has had 100 points since 1992.
He's having the best season for a defenseman that I've ever seen.
If a two-way defenseman has the best season in 30 years, and doesn't win the Hart, then when can one possibly win the Hart?

Otherwise, I'm fully on the Gaudreau train.

A lot of voters won't put a non-forward near the top of their lists because goalies and dmen already have their own mvp awards.
