What do future considerations actually amount to? I don't think I've ever seen a followup to what came out of a "future considerations" trade.

Can it be unofficial and off the books? Like one GM buys another GM a round of golf?

I would think every transaction has to be official.

If your average joe is being moved all over north america by their employer they are making a hell of a lot more than the what $65k? A minor league plug would be lucky to make. Business people who have jobs like this do pretty well for themselves and absolutely can find opportunities to opt out of that lifestyle in their line of work for less money.

He actually made a fair bit more because he played a game for the Habs, so he would have made NHL minimum for a day or so.

Very few jobs do. No regular jobs allow your employer to sell your employment contract to a different company without your consent.

Werner hasnt been doing that well in the AHL - would have liked to seen him sent to Ottawa and give this McNiven a tryout to the end of the year

McNiven has been much worse in the AHL this season...at least as far as the counting stats go.

I wouldn't call playing minor league pro hockey a terrible life. But you also better have a plan for what you're doing next, it's a short career.

A good friend of mine played pro in Europe for a number of years and it was fantastic. But he did struggle when he came back to NA to begin his second career and found himself starting with a bunch of people 15 years younger than him. There is a mindset you need to adopt.

Even the nhl can't sell your contract without your consent. Of course witholding consent voids the contract ....

This is all coming down to semantics now.

I still see 0 reason why playing pro hockey = having a terrible life.

The NHL does not employ hockey players. Teams do. Teams can trade players without their consent, and do so all the time. Withholding consent does not void the contract, it puts the player in breach of contract and gets him suspended.

That you think this stuff is just semantics does not speak well for your understanding of the situation.
