If this had happened to Dadonov, he would have a pretty good case against his agent for the tax loss. At least.

Vegas is currently installing this in the locker room so they can get Stone and Martinez back in the lineup

Can someone explain to me what does this Dadonov trade cancellation have anything to do with Vancouver's Luongo recapture penalty?

I'm very much in favour of Vancouver Canucks franchise being unjustly punished for no particular reason.

If there’s a deadline for submitting a list, there’s a deadline for creating a list. Only the player can put together the teams and maybe they’re just legendary lazy procrastinators when it comes to writing stuff and they can just never

That's not what I asked. I didn't say anything about cap space.

You asked this:
Quote:
So, could Vegas just send a draft pick or something to Anaheim for Kesler's contract and take advantage of the LTIR that way? Or would it not count until next season because it is after the trade deadline.
|
There is no advantage to take. There is no point in anyone acquiring Kesler's contract. It's no good to anybody. And the whole point of using LTIR is to gain cap space, so yes, you did ‘ask anything about cap space’.
I have explained this multiple times, and you didn't take in any part of the explanation. What is it that you don't understand about this?
Geez.

The NTC gives Dadonov certain rights, provided he meets certain conditions.
There is anecdotal evidence that these conditions are not always met and therefore the rights in the contract are not always enforceable.
Clearly there is evidence that Dadonov met those conditions but that evidence is in Ottawa's possession and was not provided nor disclosed to Vegas at the time of the Ottawa trade. That is a massive omission by Ottawa.
Vegas probably should have followed up with Ottawa, just to be safe, but why would Vegas assume that Ottawa would neglect to provide this evidence within a reasonable time?
Dadonov's agent should have been aware that his client (along with Reilly) has been named in trade rumours and articles for months. In the best interest of Dadonov the agent should have emailed Vegas to ensure that Dadonov's list would be honored. But again, the agent has no reason to assume that Ottawa would not pass on the list to Vegas and that Vegas would ignore the list.
If I own the Knights I am still pissed at my management team. (1) Why did we wait until the last minute to do this deal? There were articles in January about the Kesler contract going to Vegas for a player like Dadonov or Reilly. (2) Once deadline day arrives, our only objective is cap space and we should be thoroughly prepared to trade either Dadonov, Reilly or any other big contract.
But Ottawa caused all this mess. If I owned Vegas I would consider suing Ottawa.

So is Dandonov going to suit up tonight like nothing happened?

Regardless of what Ottawa said, when the Knights got him in the first place they should have confirmed with the agent. They have had since July to follow up. It should have been done after he was acquired.

I would think so. It’s not like they traded him because they isn’t like him — they clearly just needed the cap space. I suppose Dadonov could sulk and mail it in, but I doubt he does that.

What choice does he have? Unless puts him in the press box, he's playing.

So a big issue in the LTIR ‘loophole’ is that declaring a player “off LTIR” doesn’t seem to be a rigid timeline. If they had space now, would Stone be playing? And now that they don’t, is he destined to be on LTIR for the rest of the year even if he isn’t injured anymore?
Seems difficult to punish a team for not removing a player off LTIR

This is all on VGK for not doing their due diligence.
Would you trade for a player without reading his contract?
"Yeah, we traded for him last year, but didn't know he had a $10 lump sum bonus payable next week." - That guy is fired by the owner.
Every team has (or should have) a guy who has read every contract for every player on his team. It's the same as having a guy who specializes in the cap.
Yes, Ottawa has the onus to give over all information, but I am sure the NTC is right there in the contract. All someone on the Knights had to do was read it.

Like I already said, the contract shows a conditional NTC. The evidence of conditions is a separate document which was not provided nor disclosed by Ottawa. If you are going to do due diligence then you are going to need ALL the documents. You should not have to keep going back to Ottawa to ask if there is anything missing.
