We need to get someone in front of the net. we need a Timmy Hunter clone. The Sharks had someone in that position all night.

On a night we all wanted to hear from Darryl Sutter, we got Jason LaBarbara.

Maybe he wants to break the San Jose curse with his absence.

that play in ot wasn't risky and he would make that play in that situation every time, and would connect 99/100. i've never seen marky fan on a shot like that, complete fluke.

the 1 difference i'm seeing from this year and 2004 with Sutter was the ability to hold leads and win close games. They won a lot 2-1 games and almost always won when leading in the 3rd iirc

Jason did a great job standing in for Daryl.

This was the first game they lost while holding a lead in the 3rd. Can't remember the numbers but I imagine it's better than 2004 considering the Flames actually didn't win that many games in 2004.

Looks like we play them again April 7. Let’s start the game by lucic/Gudbransson/Ritchie etc. smashing Meloche’s face. Never heard of the guy and he’s getting tough with dube, Coleman and backlund. Just set the tone.

Jason LaBarbera looks a lot older than I imagined, probably because I remember him playing and it doesn't seem that long ago. I guess that means I'm getting old.

Anyway we know Sutter is not shy about criticising his goalies so I think Haynes is right, however 38 shots against is a team stat.

Also way too many shots in the third that missed the net from what I saw.

One goal in the past 9 games. It's time to end the Mangiapane Toffoli experiment that started with the Edmonton game and put him back with Backlund where he's had success.

In the 10 games before that, he had 7 goals.

Yeah, Sutter changed things up to freshen it, but I wasn’t crazy about the lines. I also think he pinned a little too much on Jarnkrok having offensive ability. That hasn’t shown up. Wouldn’t mind seeing

Gaudreau Lindholm Toffoli
Mangiapane Dube Tkachuk
Monahan Backlund Coleman
Lewis Jarnkrok Carpenter

If that’s too much for Dube, switch him and Backlund. Gives Monahan more speed and defence on his line and puts him on the wing. You can move Tkachuk back to top line if necessary. Give Lucic a rest. He’s looking unfocused and slow. Monahan maybe needs a rest too, but he just can’t play with Lucic and Lewis and provide any contribution. He needs more speed and creativity.

I think we're fine.

I think we just had a few uncharacteristic whoopsies from our goaltender tonight.

We don’t have anyone to really penetrate the top of the crease area. Tonight at the end Backlund at least stood there and watched the puck get slung back and forth without really getting involved.

I think back to the Backlund OT playoff goal against the Ducks, and Hudler infront drawing the penalty and then setting the screen for the winner.

A stronger net front presence would be nice. We have the finishers on the outside down low. Buy them a little more space and make the goalies tracking ability a little harder.

I hear Sutter has a thing with former teams.

He doesn't like to lose to them.

I only watched up to the backlund goal but this is the first time in a long time that the flames lost the expected goals battle in addition to losing the game.

Part of that is probably the long season and not having much to play for at the moment, still I think the balance is off on the lines. Jarnkrok playing a little too high in the lineup, 4th line needs Ruzicka. Either way Sutter probably gets them back on track soon.

Poopy game, poopy loss, poopy performance. Coach is pissed about this one. However better to put up stinkers like this at this point during the season, than later on I suppose.

Couture has been a Flames' killer his entire career. He's now exactly PPG against the Flames, which is his best PPG total against any other team. He also has his best +/- against the Flames when compared to the rest of the other teams. Always wanted him on the team, just so he can stop scoring goals against us.
