These low minor goalies on contracts live a terrible life. They get passed around all over the league and sent up and down to the AHL/ECHL.

Pretty shrewd asset management IMO. We traded our future considerations, but then acquired the future considerations from a team that has a lot to consider in the future.

I hope that Ottawa Future Considerations is a better player than Future Considerations that we sent to Montreal.

Say what you like about treliving, but he managed to restock our future considerations cupboard within weeks! That’s asset management baby!

The terrible time comes when they are 32-35 and are done with hockey. Many have little education and limited skills outside of hockey and marginal savings. Then they have to find a way in the real world.

This guy has played or been assigned to these places in the last few years:
*Laval
*Brampton
*Adirondack
*Jacksonville
*Norfolk
*Stockton
*Montreal
*Ottawa

(and probably Belleville soon)

He knows that basically none of these teams cares one bit about him and he's just there to fill time until someone they consider to have a future comes along.

Yeah no doubt about some players retiring with nothing, or worse off getting injured early on. Still many pro players started in college or junior and have an education that way.

Good, albeit meh, move. His presence gave the Flames the flexibility to move a goalie at the deadline. It didn't mateeialuze, so Treliving gets a bit back. One of those little deals where a good manager earns his keep.

McNiven seems like a good name for a sailor, and he's been going around for port to port so to speak.

Replace "teams" with "companies" and you could be describing the average Joe working a 9-5

They do if the job requires it. Why are you so intent on arguing that McNiven has a terrible life. Are you McNiven? Should we ask him for an interview to get to the bottom of this?

I imagine the "Futures" will be similar to the returns Flames received from Detriot in the great Tom McCollum trade.

It was apparently a conditional 7th rounder, that doesn't appear to have been transferred.
