Speaking of XBOX 360, does anyone else find the EA sports game online are absolutely brutal? Way too much lag. I don't have any problems with any other games, but the EA ones suck. Very disapointing considering I only basically play EA games.

maybe, but NHL 07 for 360 is without doubt the best hockey video game ever made. So much freaking fun.

As per the not connecting, are you sure you ahve access to the internet? Who is your ISP. If its Telus and you are plugged in directly via the modem you have to call them to register the X360 MAC address.
There are a whole host of connectivity things, can you ping the IP the X360 is getting from another machine, can you see it in your routers DHCP list?

You may need to open these ports on your router
The following ports must be available for Xbox Live to operate correctly:
•UDP 88
•UDP 3074
•TCP 3074
|
Are you sure those ports need to be open. I dont have those ports open on my router and XBL works fine for me.
There is no mention of ports off M$ XBL website
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/co...ods/router.htm
I would be very warry of opening up ephemeril ports, alot of times home based firewall and routing software dont do intrusive tests on those ports. Also if the port is open, the X360 could be used to hijack your computer if you are connected to ir via XP Media Centre.
Be very wary of opening those ports. I would test plugging it in directly to the modem first. Also, on the X360 console under network settings, check to see what you are getting for external IP, you should be getting the same IP range as what your router gets.
The other thing to do if that doesnt work is with Shaw you get two IP's, so you could forward the IP you currently arent using to your X360, you would require a static IP to be set on the X360 for that to work, more intrusive but alot better than opening port 3074.
It seems very strange to me that M$ would require users to open ports for thier service to work, port 80 should work just fine.

It's not required but some routers block those and need to be opened. I'm guessing if you have a newer router they've smartened up and fixed that

All routers should block ports above ports 1024 no matter what, and all ports other than 80 should be blocked and only opened with specific exceptions.
I just remoted into mine and 3074 is not open, you can run Steve Gibson's firewall test or another of other free ones to test to see what ports are open (there are better ones for testing all 49151 ports but I dont know of a good free one, I have a few non free ones I use at work.
I use a Linksys WRT54G with the Svetoff Chilispot software as the firmware.
I am still perplexed as the reasoning for both TCP and UDP, I wonder what they would use the UDP port for, maybe bursting packets for speed, very strange?

i actually saw that they are taking the service down tonight for some updates. doh!
and there was a little issue over the weekend where it was rumoured that bungie.net was hacked.
maybe that all affected things?

Now just hope it doesn't break down.
I just got my 2nd replacement box this week. I'm hoping this is the lucky one.

Does anyone know what Microsoft charges to get a 360 fixed? Mine just crapped the bed today. Three red light error.

Yeah the same thing happened to me. Got a little excited and accidently kicked the XBox. But all I had to do was go to Blockbuster and have them repair the disk for $5 and it worked like new.
