Flames are going for it, and with smart two-way platers, I f'm love it.

It’s a steep price to pay…but salary retention costs you.

I would have guessed a 2nd and a 4th for Jarnkrok.

4th bumps to a 3rd for the salary retention. A 7th can easily be recouped by trading down a couple spots at the draft, so no real loss there.

Interesting that some are deeming this an "overpay" based on his production (which is actually quite good) when Jarnkrok is a versatile player who excels defensively and provides incredible depth.

Perfect addition.

I don't think the price was cheap, but getting a solid and versatile middle-6 forward with a $1M cap hit is HUGE. Well worth it, even if he doesn't re-sign. But I suspect he will

Fills a direct need too, that's the best part. Plug him into the lineup exactly where we needed help

Move Monahan to the wing, have Järnkrok as your 3C, put a LW playing well on his wing, Monahan, Lucic or Dube, Mangiapane or Toffoli on the right side. This is an incredible depth move.

His point per game production, last 5 years:

18: 42
19: 27
20: 34
21: 47
22: 44

Three of the 5 years at over .5 PPG. He is better than a '30 pt guy', even though, in fairness, his career high is only 35 pts

I feel the same. When your 4thline center can provide on the powerplay, its deep.

We have 2 guys on the 4th line who play on the PP.

If this acquisition helps them win a round, it’ll pay for itself.

The Flames probably overpaid for Marcus Nilson at the 2004 deadline as well but that was an important depth move and if the 2022 Flames make a run so will this. Jarnkork brings so much more than his offence.

How many times do 3rd or 7th rounders make the NHL?

Almost never I bet. Not a big deal to get a legit 0.5 gritty hard working playoff performer.

This is like in 2004 with the Nielsen or Niemenin type of player, you need these guys in playoffs and injuries happen.

Good move if you’re going for it and you aren’t getting Toffoli if you aren’t going for it.

Centre depth has always been a point of contention with this team, but we now have the following guys who can play C:

Lindholm
Backlund
Jarnkrok
Monahan
Dube
Ruzicka
Richardson

When guys inevitably get banged up in the playoffs, there is some solid depth to back things up

I’d like to see what Dube could do with Backlund and Coleman. Doubt we see it but a look we haven’t seen too often.

I’m not saying he isn’t a productive player. I’m saying that production doesn’t usually net you a 2nd and 3rd. The salary retention (900kish) is a factor for sure, but it’s not a lot of salary.
