I like to concentrate on the positives...as dire it is that civilians are being killed and targeted, the fact of the matter is should Ukraine lose, it will be way way worse for civilians with mass genocide expected.
This reminds me of the Battle of Britain, where Hitler started bombing London and civilians instead of military targets. This change of tactics inevitably doomed the Battle of Britain with the RAF being able to recover...had Germany concentrated specifically on military targets, the Battle of Britain could have ensured German air supremacy throughout the war, which they did not have for Russia eventually (the Luttwaffe never fully recovered).
This is an existential war, and as such every step towards Ukraine winning is a step that must be cheered.
levelling a Russian town is just as bad since it also includes killing innocent women and children
Do you even hear yourself speak at all?
I think this needs to be posted. AGAIN!
Quote:
Hawkeye: War isn’t Hell. War is war, and Hell is Hell. And of the two, war is a lot worse.
Father Mulcahy: How do you figure that, Hawkeye?
Hawkeye: Easy, Father. Tell me, who goes to Hell?
Father Mulcahy: Sinners, I believe.
Hawkeye: Exactly. There are no innocent bystanders in Hell. War is chock full of them — little kids, cripples, old ladies. In fact, except for some of the brass, almost everybody involved is an innocent bystander
Today's news about the theatre proves how true this M*A*S*H clip is please let us learn from it.

A Ukrainian television news outlet claims that its live broadcast and website were hacked on Wednesday, with a chyron falsely saying Ukraine surrendered, Ukraine 24 said in a Facebook post.
Ukraine 24 posted a warning on Facebook that its broadcast and website were hacked. Adding to the chaos is a deepfake video of President Zelenskyy appearing to tell Ukrainians to surrender began to go viral online at the same time. Zelenskyy himself has since posted a video to say Ukraine will not surrender to Russia. (.........)
I was expecting something like this, especially with the way we've seen the tech progressing the last the last few years.

That video out there today of the Russian tank getting ambushed in Mariupol is brutal. I'm not going to say it bothered me, but I probably didn't need to see it.
Let's just say it gave me a new appreciation of ragdoll physics in video games.

I think I've seen the same one, taken from a drone with a top down on the final hits. Smoke pours out of the T-80 barrel and hatch, guys try to bail out before being thrown in a huge explosion, one makes it to the grass alive. Those azov guys are ruthless. not even sure what they're using there, maybe a panzerfaust.
the reality is due to Stalin and the holodomor in particular Ukrainians hate Russians where as Russians dont really hate back, it's pretty much Ireland England historically, we English cant understand why the Irish hate us when we have pretty much done nothing but slaughter them for the last 300 years

It was two or three years ago that we were laughing at deep fakes of celebrities and whatnot and how cool they were, where experts were claiming we weren't far from them becoming a serious issue. Now we're here.
This is a hard update to post. My in-laws village north of Kharkov appears to have been bombed this morning. My wife's parents did not call at their scheduled time this morning, obviously making my wife and her cousin very worried. Just a few minutes ago they got a call from the cousin's friend that various locations around the village were bombed early this morning around 2am. As we have not heard from the parents yet, but the friend in the same village was able to call, we are bracing for the worst.
Really really hoping it's just some kind of technical issue and we'll hear from them soon. Wife is a mess about this. This stupid ####ing useless war.

I have never met a person who didn’t think the tech was scary.

Jesus Christ, why are they bombing there? Let's hope it's just a communication issue.
Here's what Mark Galeotti (British academic who's written 24 books on Putin and Russia) has to say about Putin's latest speech (from the Spectator):
"[...] This is a step towards totalitarianism, with every Russian, rich or poor, being demanded to make a choice: are you with or against Putin? There is no more room for neutrality or loyal opposition, caveats or concerns. Or else? Or else what he chillingly called a ‘natural and necessary self-cleansing of society,’ that he believed ‘will only strengthen our country, our solidarity, cohesion and readiness to meet any challenge.’
Of course, another word for cleansing is ‘purge.’"
