Fine. Prove it. This'll be rich.

Thirdly:

(e) the replacement of electrical equipment with units of a similar type if the replacement is made for the purpose of maintaining the system and does not modify the ratings or characteristics of the electrical installation.

Is the average homeowner capable of understanding the ratings and types of electrical devices in their home? They are not. The CEC does not care for this. You either follow the CEC or you do not. The lawsuit is on you for breaking it and STANDATAS have not stood up before in front of a judge. I will never engineer something to break the CEC or stamp it because it's my ass on the line. So no, you're wrong.
You're arguing that the Government of Alberta cannot override a code it voluntarily adopted, basically arguing that variances cannot and don't exist. When, you know, quite obviously they do...

Frankly you're just embarrassing yourself with the preposterous holes you're digging yourself into. Quit being an obtuse buffoon and pony up the $500.

CEC rules trump over everything. It's in the literature I've already posted, you can prove me wrong there. STANDATA's are adopted practices but not above law. If a case went to the Supreme Court of Canada all STANDATAs are localized and don't represent the adopted standards of Canada.

And to be honest you don't work for my company, I can guarantee that. We actually do important work.

You're the one claiming STANDATA overrides the electrical code, you prove it.

Edit: I did a cursory search and couldn't find any examples of a STANDATA overriding the CEC

Any STANDATA has never overruled the CEC.

Its in the code and #### your STANDATA, the code is bound by law, the STANDATA is not. Pay up bitch boy

So, if replacing a lightbulb is technically not allowed, I presume that would extend to modifying a computer. Like, if you replace a video card with one that draws more power. Presumably adding an internal hard drive would run afoul. Would that extend to adding an external USB drive? Where is the limit?

Yeah, we might need a referee or a judge. Hopefully someone is paying $500!

Who would think, in the home improvement thread of all places.

All I know is I've been told the same thing as PaperBagger'14 said by multiple electricians over the years.

When you get into this legalese type of argument no one wins. JMO but changing a bulb is using the fixture as it was intended and by no means is a repair or alteration and there's not an inspector on the planet who would say otherwise. Unless of course it's the old elbow in the ribs, 'you know this needs a permit' kind of comment.

Under this pretense I would need a permit to change the motherboard on my furnace? Trying to think of another obtuse example.

Again JMO amateur opinion. My electrical experience is limited to rewiring three houses complete with service connections/panels etc. on homeowners permits with the help of PS Knight. Never failed an inspection.

Again, this isn't even a shed. It's four posts with an aluminum roof.
What’s your zoning? You can find it here if you don’t know it: https://maps.calgary.ca/myProperty/

R-1 residential. My home currently (with attached garage) takes up 34.6% of the lot.

Even if I added a gazebo/pavilion that was 20m2 I'd be at 38%.

And yet some have told me the opposite lol.

Codes suck, they are left to interpretation sometimes, even by the inspector.
