Not sure why Colorado is doing this.
I guess Sturm costs much less.

Hm. I know Jost had fallen out of favor in Colorado but Sturm seems very lateral.

Yuck. Probably Giroux then.

This has to be to open up cap space for the Avs. Jost has a cap hit of $2M while Sturm only has a hit of $725k.

I think Jost still has some upside, good trade for Minnesota.

I always take trade deadline day off, and always end up regretting it, with so many trades consummated the week before.
Looks like aves are making room for a big fish.
I thought Jost still has good potential.

They got the cheaper, more productive player.
Clear win for Colorado when you look at this season and what they’re (likely) about to do elsewhere on the trade market.

Jost has been underutilized in Colorado. He could turn out to be one of those plug and play middle six players for the Wild that are worth their weight in gold. Good trade for them and will slide right in if they trade Fiala in the off season.
Avalanche are telegraphing a trade that requires cap. Agree with the Giroux speculation, which is gross.

Ugh...I really like Giroux so it would suck to see him land in Colorado.

I can't say that I have watched either player that closely, but reading what some Avs fans have said about Jost, it sounds like he was a bit of a whipping boy. He certainly hasn't lived up to his top 10 pedigree. They made it sound like he loses a lot of physical challenges.
Haven't paid much attention to Sturm, but he is a pretty big body and the Avs certainly like size.

I could see Jost becoming a contributor for Minnesota.
Having a bad year this year, but he was strong for them last year

I was talking with a friend last night after the Manson trade, but Colorado could pretty easily pull off a Bowen Byram for J.T. Miller trade.
Byram has really high upside, but has injury trouble. Vancouver has been said to be looking for a young defenseman.
Miller replaces Landeskog while he is injured and slides into Kadri's spot next year.

To me it sure seems like Colorado is going to be acquiring a centre before the deadline - and that’s why the Flames should be as well.
Mackinnon - Kadri Vs. Lindholm - Backlund is at least in the same world, but if they go out and acquire Giroux or Miller or someone like that then we match up horribly against them and their depth will kill us.

I don’t know if Miller is going to be moved, though. The rumors seem to be that the Canucks want to sign him and pay him.

Canucks are only 3 back of the wildcard and could pick up some ground with NJ, Det, and Buf before the deadline. They may not sell.

Don’t know enough about Sturm. But Jost is the kind of C I’d have loved on this team tbh
