So.. guess who was the best line yesterday in terms of possession and expected goals?

I’m at the point where we can not be expecting any goals from Ritchie.

I do tend to agree that in this instance it's not a huge deal. Ruzicka should be back in a week or two at the most and will benefit from playing huge minutes for a few games - if not I would be shocked considering how well he's played for the bulk of his time as a young player.

I fully expect this Mackey call up to be permanent though, so we are merely delaying the inevitable that Ritchie or Richardson are eventually waived so Ruzicka can return to the lineup as the superior player.

He's basically a skating t-shirt gun at this point. Just firing souvenirs into the crowd.

Not taking anything away from OK or Stone but Mackey has as much if not a little more to give IMO
If the $$$ makes sense I think this is a permanent promotion.
If he's playing with Tanev (Tanev just is the perfect partner) he'll be yet another player that thrives alongside Tanev .....going all the way back to his Canuck days .
I wished Stone would have stepped in and had no issues but his gaf on the 2nd McKinnon goal might have pushed him off the roster and into Darryls doghouse?
Regardless.....having this depth Is awesome and I'm pretty happy for Mackey.

I don't see it. Mackey is here to be the extra defenceman. Once Kylington is back, Stone goes back to #7 and Mackey back to Stockton.

Seems a little premature given Mackey hasn't played an NHL minute yet this year...

Mackey will head back down to Stockton where the Heat are playoff bound and he'll get far more time on the ice. He isn't staying.

Does this mean Valimaki is the 9th D then? And if so does that make him deadline trade bait?

I wouldn't read too much into it. Mackey has a lower cap hit than Valimaki, so it used less cap space to recall him for a couple of days and they knew the recalled player was unlikely to play.

Also wasn’t Valimaki close to the games played limit of requiring waivers?

@Fan960Steinberg

Oliver Kylington is on the ice for practice this morning. He’s missed the last two games with a lower body injury.

Calgary assigned Connor Mackey back to Stockton earlier today and recalled Adam Ruzicka. #Flames

No. According to CapFriendly, he's exempt for another 64 games played, which at this point, is impossible to reach.

Oh thanks! I thought I had seen that being a reasoning when he was initially sent down.
