Default Directions from Calgarians please?

Hi, another poster here and I have tickets to the Flames vs Avs game on the 3rd. This will be my first Flames game in Calgary as I live north of Edmonton. I have to idea how to get to the Saddledome for the game. I will be coming in on highway 2.

Does anyone have any simple directions to the dome from highway 2 ? Also, it's getting freaking nice out, anyone tailgating before the game ? That would rock.

Thanks in advance.

I would think the easiest route would be:

From Deerfoot Trail, exit to Memorial Drive Westbound.
Exit on the 4th avenue Flyover
Turn left onto 1st St. SE (get over ASAP, as it is a quick left turn)
Turn left onto 12th Ave S and follow the signs.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Snakeeye's directions are excellent; except that part. Instead of taking the flyover, stay in the left hand lane and take your next left after the Flyover. Then follow it onto 4th ave, and turn left on 1 street SE. Saves you having to get across 4 lanes of traffic in one block.

Good point. I always seem to forget about turn onto Edmonton Trail/Riverfront Avenue.

Basically, once you are in downtown, you just need to get onto 12th Avenue and head east.

An alternate to parking at the Dome would be to park at a C-Train station and take the train.

There's a station by the zoo, which is just off of Deerfoot at Memorial. When you turn onto Memorial westbound, stay in the right lane and take the first right, following the signs to the zoo. Park there and take the train downtown. You'll have to transfer trains downtown though: get off at Olympic Plaza and follow the crowd across the street to either to the Convention Centre or City Hall -- I don't take the NE train, so I don't know which transfer point in better. If you do this, make sure you get on the Southbound train (destination Somerset?) and not the Northeast train (destination Whitehorn). If in doubt, ask someone wearing a Flames jersey which train to catch. Reverse the procedure after the game, except this time, you want the Whitehorn train downtown).

Alternately, you could stay on Deerfoot to Glenmore (depending on the time of day, traffic could be horrible between Memorial and Glenmore). Stay in the right lane on Glenmore and get off Glenmore at the Macleod Trail turn off. Don't drive all the way down to Macleod, but turn right into the mall entrance between the Office Depot and the Work Wearhouse. Take the first right at the stop sign and you'll drive past the Home Depot loading dock out the back entrance to the shopping centre. Turn left onto the road and follow it a half a block until you see the Chinook C-Train station. Get on the Northbound train and take it 3 stops to Victoria Park Stampede Station, then follow the crowd to the Saddledome. After the game, get on the southbound train at Stampede and go three stops to Chinook.

Are you going back to Edmonton after the game, or are you staying in town? That might influence the best route to take as well, especially leaving the game.

You're not likely to find many tailgaters for a weeknight regular season game.

Yeah we are heading back north after the game. I was unsure about the parking, I hope I can get there early enough that it won't be a problem.

Thanks for the directions everyone, I appreciate it.

Haha.. those google directions through Inglewood tell you to take an illegal left turn (the one right after the Elbow River crossing). Of course, without actually having been to that intersection, one wouldn't know that.

The ironic thing is, lots of people do take that route. It's one of those illegal left turns that is only illegal if the cops see you do it.

Isn't everything only illegal if the cops see you do it.

BTW I think we should give this guy different directions that don't involve one of the crappiest places in all of Calgary. What better way to show off our city then enetering downtown past the cecil and druggies.
