Funnell as many weapons and materials as possible into Ukraine.
Potentially remove barriers to your population going to Ukraine to fight.

Are sanctions not really working? It might take more time as Russia will need to bear the pain for a while. IMO unrealistic to believe sanctions would offer a quick resolution.

Agreed. Way too early to say that sanctions aren’t working, no?

I can't shake the feeling that our education plays a role. We learn a lot more about Europe than the "East". I remember learning about Stalin and the holodomor in junior high, we didn't cover Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge that was in National Geographic not school.
And our mass schooling didn't cover Serbia, Chechnya or really much about the political fallout of the collapse of the USSR. So now I see many people basically being shocked by war in Europe, they thought we were all done with that after WWII. Plus it's the baddies from so many 80's action flicks.

Our company has declared a hiring freeze. So do most other Russian companies. Lay offs are likely coming. Those who are fired will struggle to get a new job. They will have to resort to crime. Little by little, Russia will descend into chaos.

Yeah but just think, your country could soon own Ukraine!
Was it worth it?
(Rhetorical question for Putin, not you as I have read all your posts and know where you stand and empathize with you- thanks very much for continuing to contribute).
I really don’t get what Putin is doing on this one. Just does not make sense.

They may and likely will eventually work. An argument was that sanctions don't seem to be stopping the war right now.

My best guess is that Putin is YOLOing it. Like when you play Civilization, or any other similiar game. You know that the best for your virtual "population" is to keep peace, trade and prosper. But it's boring. So you invade your neighbor just to make things interesting. It may sound stupid, but after 22 years in power he may well lost a touch with reality. And there's not a single sensible explaination posited yet. This war is puzzling. Makes no sense whatsoever.

This is what my thinking is. Too many people are dying and the US/EU needs to do something. This is a just cause.

The price is very very high for the EU/US to "do something".
The best thing they can do is pour weapons into Ukraine.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the Russian war machine destroyed by the West, but the repercussions of that is more than we can live with.
To bring this to a macro level, would you go and fight? Do you consider this a just war?
For me I wouldn't go and fight. That is what I told the guy that contacted my about going.
Over the last few days I have tried to temper my opinions on this War. I have been looking at it through a 17-23 yr old's eyes which hasn't been the best.

The next step I think we'll see as a major escalation is a shoot down of an aircraft bringing weapons into Ukraine.

I share the same concern. Putin has now said that any shipment of weapons to Ukraine is considered a legitimate target. I hope he isn’t that foolish.

they are doing something. how bloodthirsty are you, that you want untold millions more to die because you've decided the cause is just?
Do you think Trudeau should declare war on Russia, and send in all we've got, no matter what anyone else does?
Sorry. Wanting the rest of the world to declare war and attack Russia, is to me insane. You want to do something, you go over.

I had that thought when it was rumoured that Poland was going to send all their MIG planes to Rammstein Air Base. I was wondering what the chances were that Putin might actually destroy the planes in Germany before they get to Ukraine. It seems like a very dangerous thing to be advertising to the world.
If something happens, it will probably be in international waters or air space. Eventually a NATO ship or plane will be face-to-face with a Russian one and anything can happen.

Personally I thought the idea of sending Polish planes to Germany for delivery by NATO was a false flag “leak”, so that NATO could publicly say that is off the table and have MIGs show up somehow anyways.

It was always going to get worse once the Ukrainians made a stand in their cities. Tens of thousands more people will die in this stupid war.
