#13 has taken a huge leap in his game this year under Darryl’s system and coaching. He is playing as hard off the puck as on the puck and has simply shown up all season long. I feel like we and the team all believe in what he is doing and he is playing every night and every shift.

I think he belongs in the conversation for the “C” and at least deserves a “A”.

He didn't wear a letter at Dubuque. He never wore a letter in 3 seasons at BC. I just don't think it is something that he puts a high value on. I am not opposed to him wearing a A but don't think he is the Captain.

I just don’t think he is playing like a kid anymore. There has been a change. I think you letter it.

Johnny usually wears a "M" or "Medium" and probably 32"W pants.

Before the season I would have thought the chances of Johnny wearing a letter were nil.

Now, it’s in the cards for sure. He’s a different player/person than he was before. The transformation is incredible.

Have you considered that the player does not want to assume a leadership role? Does being a star player automatically assume you have leadership skills or a desire to lead?

I am all for letting him dispy-doodle and do all his magic on the ice and not have him distracted by wearing a "C" or an "A".

Nothing needs to change this year, IMO. If he signs a long term deal, maybe give him the A if Monahan gets traded or bought out.

Yeah, this. I just don't think it's his personality to be in that role, nor does he want it. I doubt it's just an oversight that the best player on the team the past few years doesn't even wear an A.

I think a lot of fans think best player = captain.

Not how it works. Johnny may not have leadership abilities, or perhaps chooses not to wear a letter. Which is all OK.

I keep getting mixed up with the other Gaudreau's or Goodrows from the other teams when the Flames play these teams and the names are mentioned. Maybe put the letter J on Johnny's jersey to distinguish him from all the other Gaudreau/Goodrow would be good.

I don't think that's really true to be honest. Not any fan that's following on a hockey board anyways, IMO.

Just because we think our best player may have grown into a leadership role doesnt mean we think best players should be captain.

I mean a lot of people think Tkachuk should be, and he was arguably the best player in-rising with Gaudreau maybe on the way out last summer.

I agree Tkachuk's qualities seem more captainly, particularly this year with a more mature game, but I think it's a disservice to Johnny not to notice how he's been leading this team, not just on the score sheet.
