Alex Ovechkin has scored now 30 goals in 16 seasons. Only needs 6 more to pass Jagr for third place all time.

Thread deserves a bump. Ovechkin now has 36 goals in 56 games. Brings him up to 766 and ties him for 3rd all time with Jagr.

I've been a huge Ovi fan since day one. Actually, even before Day One. That WJC was almost a best on best because of all the great young players in that tourney. That's when I fell in love with him.
I admit I have mixed feelings about this record chase now.

I know what you mean. Felt weird hearing the boos initially, when I was at the game. Saw your post about him still having Putin on his profile picture, and it feels as if he does condone Putin’s leadership. probably sullies the person’s legacy a bit, but at the same time what we are seeing with the chase in the NHL is historic.

Which works out to 30 goals per season needed at minimum... which is pretty tough to do for the vast majority of players regardless of age, but this guy is 36 years old...

This guy is built different. More than a good chance of hitting 50 this year as a 36 year old.
My bet is he hits 40 next season.

He's had one season in his career where he didn't score at least 30 goals, and that was last season when he had 24 in 45 games.

What's the consensus. How many have turned on Ovie for the record because of his quiet allegiance to Putin (even though he doesn't advocate war)?
Do we disregard politics, or do we just look at the hockey player, whom most enjoy and support?
I personally don't know where to draw the line.
