Weird stat on the radio today - it's Ovechkin and Backstrom's 1000th game as a couple.

Put me down for a Looch v Wilson scrap.
The boys need to be a lot sharper tonight with the passing. Washington is a much deeper team than the garbage they faced last night.

This might be the most fun it's been to be a Flames fan since 2005-2006 & Kipper's vezina season when they were expected to contend after the '04 run.
At least, the Flames haven't commanded this much respect since then.

Agree that the Edmonton game was more important in the standings, but I feel like I've seen a general trend that more teams are playing their starter against the weaker team and backup vs the stronger team in a back-to-back. It might be that is actually the statistically best way to go (might also depend on how good your backup is).

The 18/19 regular season was a pretty fun ride as well. The Flames had some nice fancy stats, a great goal differential, and 5 players with over 70pts (at times multiple players pacing for over 100).
That playoff series really was a black mark on the team but they were an elite regular season team. Hindsight showed they were a paper tiger but I don’t get the same vibes from this squad

Both 06 and 19 looked good.. first round exits.. looking good/better this year but definitely keeping cautious optimism this time around, I felt silly assuming first round wins both those years.

I think it's just that the playoff series trampled the optimism that was generated during that season.
But while we were in it, yes. It was pretty fun.

It's kind of amazing that he was a guy literally everyone was rooting hard for at the beginning of the year. Not saying everyone has turned on him but he's certainly not the brand he was a month ago.

When quoting a very long post, it would be nice if you trimmed it down to only the part you're replying to. Cheers!
I'm hoping that Oputkin gets 0 points and a -3 tonight.

It would be great to hear some "Putin sucks" chants.

Predictably Darryl was asked today about Ovechkin and the Russian thing. I thought he had a really good answer. Then there was a follow up and he got predictably and rightfully snippy.
Worth a watch
