I guess 700+ point swings on the Dow are the new normal.
The stock market is completely bonkers right now.

that is only 2% - there have been 10% days

volatility has been high recently, for obvious reasons, but not unusually so

volatility ebbs and flows, just like everything else

There has been exactly three +10% and one -10% day since 1987.

Yes. But 2% is not unusual. Which was the point I was making.

So the 10% was a non sequitur?
I really don't see your point at all.

you made a comment about 700 point swings being the new norm
I pointed out that 700 points is only 2%, which isn't uncommon - daily volatility can reach 10%

Yes, market volatility, like many things, plays out in a (mostly) normal distribution (though with wide tails).
Your original argument seemed to be that volatility is higher now, but you are now presenting evidence that it isn't.

 On that we agree.

I've been in Permex for a while (oil.cn), it's got a chance to move I think. Looks to be well set up for the next few years with attractive properties in Texas/New Mexico. Maybe needs more funding but they have a bunch of shut in wells they're bringing online and at these prices it's good cash flow.
