These things sound trivial, but they are the things that will piss off the middle and upper classes in Russia, who would largely otherwise by unaffected by this war. Many of these people won't care about people dying in Ukraine, but they'll be right pissed when they have to get a new credit card and change over their automatic billing subscriptions.
The new credit card will be a chicken and 3 beets

March 5 (Reuters) - Russia's foreign ministry called on European Union and NATO countries on Saturday to "stop pumping weapons" to Ukraine, the Russian RIA news agency said.
Sure thing Russia. The west will stop pumping in stinger missiles as soon as you stop pumping in Migs and Hind attack helicopters.
Well, I think Trevor Noah sort of hit the nail on the head without outright saying it.
We know he's alluding to racism, and I'm certain there is an element of that, of course. Its not as though Eastern Europe is notorious for being the cradle of modern society's woke movement.
That being said, you cant ignore the fact that many of these places are former USSR and despite consistent tensions, they are a very close-knit society.
Families are intertwined, travel is common and frequent. These are people they know in a conflict that they understand.
Comparing that to the Syrian refugees, those were people with a religion and culture they dont understand as well, from countries they dont know as well or have as close ties to, etc. In huge waves.
So yes, his allegory of saying that "Theres a reason Uncle Phil only took in Will" is pretty spot on. He wasnt trying to save the world, he was trying to save his family member.
So to just say 'its racism' while not incorrect, is disingenuous. Its more nuanced than that.
However, I definitely will admit some of those reporters when they're talking strictly about 'how these people look' and specifically addressing blond hair and blue eyes, etc. Yeah. That is straight up racist and more than cringe-worthy.
Also though, you have two fairly modern, mechanized militaries duking it out in the streets of modern cities...you definitely dont see this kind of thing every day.

There's also an element of expecting certain countries to be on a state of war, because they have historically been so and/or are surpressed by totalitarian governments that cannot exist in perpetuity. For example, if a was breaks out in Myanmar it's less shocking then if total warfare were to break out in Japan. Both places contain Asian populations, but one simply has a greater reputation for being unstable. The same would go for war breaking out in Saudi Arabia vs Libya/Iraq.
not only was the video really weird, turns out that he wasn't even in the room, and was apparently on a green screen with the scene set up to pretend he was there. His hand was shown to pass through the microphone near him a few times.
Zelensky being Zelensky, with a single move of the mic, shows the difference between a man like him, and a child like Putin.
Since the main video is on a subreddit with a swear word in it, here's an alternate.
There’s evidence (and as far as I know not disputed) that people respond differently, physiologically, when negative events happen to people that don’t look like them.. Its not a surprise that horrors that are endured by a group A resonate more with people who identify as group A.

The pride of the Ukrainian fleet, the Hetman Sahaidachny flagship, was undergoing repairs in Mykolaiv, a port Russian forces are advancing on. The ship’s commander gave the order to sink it so it “would not be captured by the enemy,” Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov wrote on Facebook.
“It is difficult to imagine a more tough decision for a brave warrior and the whole team,” Reznikov said. “But we will build a new fleet, modern and powerful. The main thing now is to resist.”
Please don’t mistake this for me being a Putin apologist, because I’m not - the actions he has taken are criminal and history will judge him as the animal he is. But, the more I educate myself on how the world ended up where it is with Ukraine, the more I think the only way out of this sits in the hands of NATO, and offering to declare Ukraine as neutral territory. Listen to what Noam Chomsky had to say 7 years ago.

Hey Huntingwhale that's great news about your wife! Do you 2 have a possible date you could be reunited? I'm so glad you got the news she's on the train.
But the fog of war makes it tricky to say who ambushed them:
Quote:
At this stage we thought it was a Ukrainian army checkpoint firing at us and that it was a mistake, so we started screaming we were journalists, but the rounds kept coming.
Quote:
We didn't know it at the time, but we were later told by the Ukrainians that we were being ambushed by a saboteur Russian reconnaissance squad. It was professional, the rounds kept smashing into the car - they didn't miss.
