I think you could still argue for Laine.
If I were to re-rank the top of that draft, I’d go:
1. Auston Matthews
2. Patrik Laine
3. Matthew Tkachuk
4. Pierre-Luc Dubois
5. Jacob Chychrun
6. Mikhail Sergechev
7. Clayton Keller
Laine I think just landed in a rough dressing room, and then has had to deal with some harder parts of life in Columbus but he’s now settled and looks at home. He’s a hell of a talent.

Laine scores goals, which is valuable. Tkachuk is a more complete player.
It's a coin flip. I am happy we got the one we got.

Would you trade Tkachuk for Laine? I wouldn't.

I'd say Kyrou, DeBrincat and Fox would all be ahead of Keller (Kyrou possibly in the top 5)

Nope. And I would have maybe even last year.
That’s without thinking about contract though.

Fox is a Norris winner. He’s top 5 at least.

Fox goes 2 in a re-draft I think, unless other teams would still stay away due to signability.

Yes, since redrafts are perfect hindsight I guess you have to trade the pick.

I think I would probably go something like this.
Charles McAvoy also goes top 5 for me.
1. Matthews
2. Fox
3. Tkachuk
4. McAvoy
5. Laine
6. Dubois
7. Debrincat
8. Chych
9. Sergachev
10. Keller
That's my top 10. Kyrou probably should be in there but not sure where.

Yeah I definitely didn’t look beyond the top of the draft, Fox and Kyrou certainly climb.

Yeah that looks perfect to me with Kyrou bumping Keller.

I have thought about this player over the years as a fit for the Flames and now Eklund is reporting it (so it won’t happen). Dylan Strome is a player he says could be coming to the Flames for center help (he also lists Calgary as teams kicking tires on Chairot and Gio.
Would a Strome-Dube swap work? I know the knock on him is he is slow.
Monahan for Strome would be a nice move for us

The Flames made 2 of the top 3 picks. That's pretty decent.

With the way Keller is playing this year, I take him over Kyrou ... but it's certainly close.

If Sutter wasn’t our coach, I would say stay far away from Strome, but I believe Sutter could do something with him. I would bet that Mony could outskate him.

If Monahan was a career Oiler or Canuck, this board would unanimously mock him
+/- doesn't matter
5v5 production he's unlucky and plays with bad players
5 'good' years and a letter but when he's not scoring he's more useless than 40 year old Jarome Iginla
People suggesting he helped Gaudreau just as much and was once franchise level
Lmfao Jesus christ
Nice guy, but the stuff I'm reading here is insane
On ice performance and it's a what have you done for me lately league
He might... 'might' be more effective than than Ruzicka lol... factor in cap hit now fellas lol
He is one of the most overpaid players in the cap era at this point. Wake up

You can nitpick who should be where in that 2016 Draft but the point still stands, Vancouver is no good.
