And honestly with Toffoli in town I would get him off the powerplay too, that's a good point.

Toffoli to unit one, Monahan to unit two, Lucic to five on five only.
100%.

He is feeling his age lately. He has been completely terrible.

Not too mad. Flames were at 60% tonight. Still manage to extract a point.

Sutter will have different thoughts.

Markstrom and the Flames both need to figure out their struggles against Canadian teams though. It's getting absurd.
I was thinking exactly that when Backlund was out in the ice before that OT goal. He's OK as a 5-on-5 guy. But in OT, when he loses the puck, you know it's game over. We saw something similar in another OT loss where he loses puck control and the opposition gets a break and scores. There's just too much ice in OT and he's not a puck possession guy.

I think the Habs wanted that game more than the Flames did. I hope there's no more damn records to break. It's getting embarrassing every time there's a Flames record to be broken. This team finds a way to lose just to stay at par.

I suppose the issue is personnel. Monahan is the OT goals leader and second in points after Gaudreau (Backlund is 3rd among current Flames). But he's no longer a prime option. Sutter basically goes with footspeed in OT. So, in order, who do you go with, assuming you want a D with 2 forwards?

Gaudreau/Lindholm; Tkachuk and who? Mangiapane? There's no centre there. Toffoli? Same problem. I think Backlund gets put out because there's a faceoff and Lindholm isn't available. It's either Backlund or Monahan. Monahan has a better shot at winning the draw but if not, Backlund is better at defending and skating. Richardson is not an option. Dube would be but he wasn't on the bench.

I do agree- Backlund doesn't make the best offensive decisions in OT. He tends to shoot from outside and get trapped deep. But Sutter's choices are limited.

11 straight wins is par?

They are franchise records for a reason

23 of 24 points in 12 home games is unreal...actually it probably is a record as is

Montreal has now won 6 of 7 since the coaching change?

This is a completely different team then before . We didn’t play well / sharp but Montreal has been playing very well over the last 3 weeks

It isn’t like we lost to Arizona last night like a certain team

Well on the positive side, at least the Flames picked up a point out of this game. Team played a sloppy and uninspired game, yet still got the game to OT, I’ll take that.

When the 4th line looks like your best line, that says something about the mental state the rest of the lines going into the game. Seems like both Colorado and the Flames were looking ahead to Saturday and ended up laying an egg. Should be a heck of a tilt tomorrow.

The next six games will be a test for the Flames to see whether they are the same old Flames or they've gotten over some of their "character" issues. They've played two stinkers in the last four games and now have a very challenging week+ ahead of them. The Flames we've become accustomed to would maybe get two points out of these upcoming games and fritter away their division lead. It would be nice to see this team right the ship, be .500+ over this stretch and, even more importantly IMO, play a strong team game like we've seen so frequently this year.

man was Hannifan bad, we hardly ever lose when we score 1st and have a lead in the second wtf. That was not sutter hockey that was the classic play down to a bad team game.

But it was my fault, first game i've attended since 2014. Was really hoping they would win for me, I had a heart attack on tuesday and making it to the game was i could think of.

So many players bad in this game. They definitely took their foot off the gas for Montreal. It was both horrifying and comical to watch that clown fire drill going on in front of the flames net.

So what exactly was the point of starting Markstrom? A game against a bottom team in the other conference right before the busiest stretch of the season should be a no-brainer for the backup to get, especially with a multi-game lead on the division. This reeks a little of Sutter trying being smarter than everyone else in the room

Not a good performance from many Flames. The Habs should be a team we can easily beat, but give them some credit...as has been mentioned, they've been a much different and better team with St. Louis behind the bench. Take the point and move on.

I think Sutter will have the team re-focused for a bounce back game and I expect a much better effort against the Avalanche. I think it's time to bring Dube and Ruzicka back into the lineup...but you never know what Darryl has planned.

If the Flames can bring their 'A' game Saturday, it should be a good one!

Was Markstrom the goat last night though? Thought he played relatively well minus the penalties and after-the-whistle stuff.

That looked like a textbook game where everyone was trying to make something happen against a lower calibre opponent. Johnny doing extra stickhandling by the blueline, kylington forcing rushes, etc...

I thought Markstrom was the only reason we were still in it after the first, but goals 3 & 4 were very poor goals to allow.

I would agree with someone who said he needed to be better but other than maybe the second goal the others would have never happened if it weren't for incredibly dumb turnovers.

Turnovers will happen and you need your goalie to bail you out sometimes but that doesn't mean you can be wreckless and expect him to always bail you out.

He wasn't the reason they lost, though he certainly didn't help matters in the 3rd period. That's not the point though, why play him 60+ minutes in a game that really doesn't matter that much? The Flames are about to play 6 games in 9 days, starting with the best team in the league. They should be looking to rest Markstrom where ever possible

100%.
There were so many times where we would normally make a safe play and maintain possession, but instead we would try something fancy. It didn't help that everyone was handling the puck like a live grenade either.
