Russia is still using a lot of equipment that was designed as early as the 50s. They do have newer equipment, but it sounds like they are deploying a lot of the old stuff first.

Why Russia could not just buy Crimea from Ukraine. Like USA bought Alaska from Russia. It would be cheaper than this war for everyone.

Based on a quick look at what's on the Ron Paul Institute's website, if it is a real thing it looks more like a blog, I'd say this is staged Indian and (extreme) right-wing propaganda.

From my understanding, because they have treaties that forbid Russia from owning it, there was no legal path to ownership internationally. The only way to own it was to occupy it and basically force the world to do something about it.

Edit: When you have nukes possession really is 9/10th of the internal law.

Russia needs water for Crimea, and that comes from mainland Ukraine.

Timesnow, the channel that the host works for, definitely does lean to the right.

Some of his tweets.

Definitely an agenda.

Edit: Not the best in embedding tweets. Not sure what I did wrong.

If Russia buys it peacefully from Ukraine, why would Ukraine block water?

This could be one of possible off-ramps. Russia pays a huge sum to Ukraine and keeps Crimea. This would be technically considered as a sale and thus internationally recognized.

Besides Krovikan's explanation, Russia has a really messed up public coffer. All of the money is shadily under private control. Ukraine had the same problem that Russia did in that public money did not make it to public care. Ukraine under the current government was moving in the right direction, but I still get the feeling that if Crimea was for sale, the transaction would be two dudes in a back alley somewhere.

What a disaster the last week has been, and now this. #### you Putin.
HW, my wife and I are following your posts and this one had us both in tears. We are thinking of you both and hoping and praying for the best. I can’t even imagine what you’re going through right now, but know that you’re a hero to us and we are waiting with baited breath and hoping for good news. Putin is pure evil.

That's a very good point. I read another thread that layed out all the ways their airlines are screed. Most of the planes are Boeing and Airbus, and they have pulled Russian access to repair manuals. No spare parts coming. At best, they guessed 3 weeks before total shutdown.

Since not everyone is gonna click the link, I'll point out somethingI thought was interesting. Apparently the climate is drier in Southern Ukraine and near the coast, which means no mud season there. Which helps explain why Russians have advanced more successfully there.

Do you mean post-annexation treaties, designed to condemn annexation? Well, those could be amended or removed altogether as long, as Ukraine and Russia agree in the price and there's international consensus that the price is fair.

It's still possible to make to Kazakhstan or China by train. But generally I agree, she should hurry up

The Treaty of the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons signed by: Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Russia, USA, and UK.

Makes it illegal for Russia, US, and UK to change the existing borders as of (1994) of Belarus, Kazakhstan, or Ukraine.

It's not a movie or a video game. Putin is not going to be magically assassinated tomorrow. It's about finding feasible practical solutions that don't hinge on a Superman coming in and saving the world.

What does your own situation look like Pointman, are you staying in Russia and riding out the economic collapse?

I fear that Russia has been sanctioned about as hard as they can be and it doesn’t seem to be effecting any changes yet. I expect that the west gets bored, Putin keeps doing what he’s doing, and then either Ukraine falls or NATO intervenes militarily, both of which are really, really bad outcomes. Maybe the sanctions will really take time to kick in and show the desired effect, but I’m not sure how long that wait should be.

I feel like this is a bit of a downer post and of course the present needs to be focused on but unless there’s a clear future goal and a way to get there then efforts can be futile.
It's been less than a week since economic sanctions have been put in place and we are already seeing inner-circle oligarchs calling for peace. Ukraine needs to hold out (there is still plenty of Ukraine left to fight for) and the sanctions will build into a massive problem for the Russian people and leaders alike

Good point. Thank you. I guess those countries will have to amend it.

Hopefully legit, and it allows people (like Huntingwhale's wife/family?) a chance to get out under reduced risk.
