either way by the time they took him they can't be faulted and definitely qualifies as per your exercise

If that was the case the Rangers would have taken him in the 2nd no?

yeah like I said I wasn't really buying what I was selling....I guess you would be right though- in the end they needed to pay the Canes a 2nd to gain his services

For sure I know I'm not arguing with you.
He was dealt for 2 2nds wasn't he?
Bottom line Calgary took a Norris trophy winner, that's scouting and drafting.

The numbers are really on the back of four players (three 2nd rounders) from two drafts (although I suspect you might be counting Fox in our numbers too?). Just a little bit of a nitpick.
|
I think "later round pick" works here because of how dramatically higher success rates are for NHL first rounders than they are for every other round. I don't recall the percentages off hand, but I do know that it drops pretty precipitously after Round 1.

Forgot to mention, he's 4th in goal scoring.
Not bad for having a muffin shot

Wyatt Johnston has caught up to Kerins in games played, at 59-but he has jumped out to a huge lead with 110 points. Luke Evangelista is in 3rd with 98 points in only 54 games.
Johnston was a very astute pick-up by Dallas-he was projected all over the map for the draft, some picking him to go as low as the third round.

Kerins was 3rd star tonight, with a goal and 3 assists in a 9-3 victory over Saginaw. He's still second in OHL scoring, with 62gp/40g/66a/106pts,+7, 38 PIM. Wyatt Johnston is first with 117 pts in 62 games.

The infusion of Coronato and Kerins when they turn pro is going to change the way people look at our prospect pool. Those are two serious talents.
Already have one of the best goalie pools and a couple NHL d-men in stockton IMO in the Mackies.

Highlight package for last night’s game. Doesn’t show much, but it was a nice assist for Kerins on the goal to make it 7-5. Skating still looks like a work in progress judging by the goal he scored, but it could have been at the end of a shift. I don’t expect him to be a quick skater at the NHL level anyways.

Good catch by Pike, also potentially the first NHL player with an exclamation mark on his jersey.

I usually have no faith that a bad skater in their draft year will ever become a good skater, but these days it’s possible. Skating was the main knock on Mangiapane, and the main reason he was passed over in his first draft. He’s never going to be a burner, but he’s pretty quick now. Hopefully, Kerins will follow the same path.
