Her honda is also likely worth more than normal times so it could end up being a wash. What year and model honda?

Hm that's true. It's a 2012 Civic EX. Still in good shape afaik (I don't drive it much).

Maybe because every Mazda more then a couple years old is completely rusted out.

Mazda’s have had glowing reviews for years now. They’re still haunted by the protege rot and that fear might never go away for some people. By all accounts though, the brand to get for most people - fun to drive, good road feel, quality interior, decent power, nice looking.
I hear that pretty red is already failing though. What Mazda doesn’t need is another cosmetic disaster.

They struggle because a lot of people got burned in the 2000's by rust bucket cars (my wife had a 2003 Protege 5 that had rust bubbles on the hatch three years after new). Also I question moving their products into a category that doesn't exist (just below luxury segment). $34k for an AWD Mazda 3 is in the price range of performance compacts (more than a WRX for example) and it's not a performance compact so the price is based on it's perceived interior quality and it's just not a recipe for success against tried and true Civic and Corolla that undercut it and have brand cachet or the Koreans that pack a lot of equipment in at a lower price.

Soul red paint is no good as it's extremely fragile and chips very easily. I know someone with a red CX-5 and the front end looks sand blasted.

Man i hate dealerships. we priced out a PHEV Santa Fe and found the last one in Calgary. go to the dealership and they want a $2500 deposit before test driving it. When we call them out on it they change their tune. We test drive and come back and look at the price they added 10% of the MSRP in in doc fees and 'service contract'. When i ask about it i get 4 different answers and confirm that the service contract is just for them to pay their staff and not for oil changes etc. I'm not here to finance your dealership give me the price i saw advertised on your website plus gst as per AMVIC rules or F off. why does it have to be a fight to get the price you advertised. needless to say we walked out and we are getting snarky calls where they are trying to guilt trip us
what a hassle - we'll wait till the chip shortage gets better or interest rates are a bit better (3.99% blows)

Toyota's worse. They said for the vehicle we want there are no test drives, you can pay up front and they will order one but you can't test drive it before you buy it. I can only imagine all the "documentation fees" etc they would add on there
I can't wait til things get back to normal in the vehicle market

Dealer inventory is so low right now that they don't have vehicles to test drive. This is the worst time to be in the market for a new vehicle in over a 1/4 century.

If you are talking about the Hyundai dealership in town that I think you are (judging by a google search of who has those vehicles available right now)...then I'm not surprised. They would be the same ones who told me to "man up, it's only $1,000" when I was shopping for my new vehicle years ago. Glad to see that they haven't changed and are still awful. Avoid them at all costs.

Was this Hyundai dealership located in South Calgary along Mcleod trail?
We had a very similar experience.
Test drive used vehicle.
We like it and talk numbers.
Buddy's first number was greater than what was listed on the website.
I made him open the website and showed him.
When questioned he had no answer.
We walked out.
I mean I really don't get it dealerships. The general public is already leery of you, why confirm their suspicions by being #######s.

Apparently dealers are also loading vehicles up with accessories and forcing the consumer to take it or leave it. My wife has a client who recently paid $9K in dealer extras on a new Tacoma, he needed a vehicle and had no choice. Talk about getting hosed. This is likely the worst time in history to buy a new or used vehicle.

This is very common right now with local dealers. My brother's girlfriend wanted to buy a Sorento off the lot but they loaded it up with ppf and other accessories so they ended up ordering one from the factory and waiting for it rather than paying more for extras she didn't want. I know some Ford dealerships with Broncos on the lot will not sell for cash as they are forcing you to lease.

I honestly have no idea what would inspire someone to buy new right now? Catastrophic failure of your only vehicle and don’t want to risk driving a beater for a year?
Dealerships and new vehicles are a terrible value proposition at the best of times. Record low inventory, terribly high prices, and a ‘take it or leave it’ attitude from the leeches waiting to suck you dry with interest rates and add-one? No thanks.
Manufacturers treating customers like they’re doing them a favour by selling them unrelenting money pits. Craziness.

I don't get it either. Why are people so hung up on new vehicles? Have they never heard of Autotrader, kijiji, etc?

How could you possibly have no choice? I am 51 and have never owned a new car. Now I wouldn't recommend some of the crappy cars I've owned but something ~5 years old is a hella good option. Are these people just unable to drum up some cash and stuck with whatever financing they can get through a deadlership? Is it business related and having to lease? Heck even a LOC for a used car is a better option especially right now.
Not trying to be overly critical just really wondering.

Some folks seem to have a weird switch that goes off in their head when things become mildly scarce.
People paid way over sticker for trucks over the last year heading into a high gas price period, will be unloading when the cost of ownership becomes a 2nd mortgage.

My beloved 2011 Durango has rolled 300,000km and she is starting to show her age. I mean I still love her, but I have to start thinking about ending our relationship. I am hoping she rolls on for another 12 months.

Depending on the vehicle, this could be the smallest delta in price to upgrade to a new car, ever.
I'm supposed to go into the dealer on Friday to finalize the order for a new car for my wife, which will arrive in about 2 months (so they say, but consistent with the accounts of other buyers on forums, etc). I'll be able to sell my 3 year old kid-mobile (read: not pristine) and get into the brand new car for about a 15% premium... In normal times, that same move would cost closer to 80% over the 3 year old car (if not more)...

I had no idea, asked my wife. 2011 Tacoma written off from a collision, he had no vehicle.
