??? Do you mean the players should be giving a rebate?

What do you think escrow is?

Of course. Do you think the players shouldn't be concerned about this?

Oh, they should definitely be concerned. But after they stiffed the league by demanding full salaries for a 56-game season with virtually no gate revenue, they're not in a really good position to complain.

I agree the players were a bit short-sited, but the league left that wiggle room open for them. They got paid 70% that year to play 69% of a season length (though obviously it's more complex than that).

There has always been a scrap around the definition of HRR...this Coyotes play is a sacrifice of HRR to bolster an owner's non-HRR. I suspect the other owners have concerns, too.

The PA should also be wondering why the other 3 NA sports have expanded their playoff formats in recent years generating good 'bang for buck' on a few extra games.

Why not if they are partners. I mean that the ONLY time you hear from the PA is when they bitch about money and/or escrow. The two things they have agreed to in the previous negotiations. They argued until they were blue in the face about being partners but when the most visible team needing time to get arena fixed/built then they want to talk about lower revenue.

Maybe the league should go to them and tell them that the revenue situation isn't good with Arizona right now and maybe they will just fold the team. Say goodbye to 23 NHL salaries and 30 minor league players, see how the players feel about that. This players association does nothing to help players, nothing to protect the ones who need it (check out all the things they gave up for rookies/first contracts over the years) and only care about the top 10% of wage earners.

Back to 31 teams? What is this, 2021?
or
3200 seat arena? What is this, 1924?

The PA hasn't said anything yet (at least not publicly). The PA being a mess doesn't mean they can't be upset about boneheaded decisions by their partner.

Sweet arena for ASU hockey... for an NHL team? Yikes...

I can't see the other owners or players being very happy about it...won't the other teams have to chip in to help Arizona stay afloat again?

Not sure how they hit the cap floor, as I can't imagine local TV broadcasting rights being that good...

While Bettman has great support from all NHL owners for growing the game, Arizona has been a big L, in my opinion... seems like he's going to make it a hill to die on however.

Phoenix doing basically everything in their power to scare away future signings. If it weren't for their climate they'd be up there with Edmonton as a non-destination.

Just got back from Phoenix. Drove around where the new rink is proposed to be, I had thought it was going to be on the old golf course, but it's way closer to the airport than that. From what I gathered it's at the NW corner of Rio Salado and Priest. It's a touch farther from the LRT than I originally thought, but plenty close to the 202 and all the ASU amenities. (Jordan can/will tell me if I got that wrong.)

Sucks they have to play in a small rink for a few years, but things are trending in the right direction.

Edmonton, Phoenix is not.
