A couple of the oligarchs voice concern and plead for peace

Quote:
Two Russian billionaires, Mikhail Fridman and Oleg Deripaska, called for an end to the conflict triggered by President Vladimir Putin's assault on Ukraine, with Fridman calling it a tragedy for both countries' people.

Billionaire Fridman, who was born in western Ukraine, told staff in a letter that the conflict was driving a wedge between the two eastern Slav peoples of Russia and Ukraine who have been brothers for centuries.

"I was born in Western Ukraine and lived there until I was 17. My parents are Ukrainian citizens and live in Lviv, my favourite city," Fridman wrote in the letter, excerpts of which Reuters saw.

"But I have also spent much of my life as a citizen of Russia, building and growing businesses. I am deeply attached to the Ukrainian and Russian peoples and see the current conflict as a tragedy for them both."

Russian billionaire, Oleg Deripaska, used a post on Telegram to called for peace talks to begin "as fast as possible".

"Peace is very important," said Deripaska, who is the founder of Russian aluminium giant Rusal, in which he still owns a stake via his shares in its parent company En+ Group.

On Feb. 21, Deripaska said there would not be a war.

While there are always cooler times, Russia really needs to turn towards actual democracy and openness for people to start fundamentally seeing the country differently.

It's very easy for non-Russians to see Russians as somewhat monolithic, because as a nation it IS fairly monolithic. Power is so centralized. There's one seat of power and one public truth. We don't get to see the actual differences within the country, it's all just grumbling against Putin, it's not politics in the normal sense.

A mad leader in Germany or France trying to start a world war would just get hospitalized these days. That's why they're not scary even if someone outsiders really dislike gets to power.

Just my opinion but the early narrative that these were the cannon fodder and the strong troops were next seems to been crumbling. Putin's side chick Ramzan Kadyrov sent in his top dogs and the Ukrainian people are continuing to push back.

Short answer is no.
Two very different and seperate institutions with very different criteria and standards that have to be met for membership.

Kyiv mayor just tweeted that Kyiv is surrounded. Ukrainians might eventually turn the tide, but it hasn't happened yet.

Those Turkish drones seem exceptionally effective. You wouldn't think a drone could get the drop on an BUK anti aircraft battery like that.

France and the UK absolutely did hate Germany after WWI, the Treaty of Versailles was constructed to punish and humiliate them. After WW2 there wasn't anyone left to hate, the entire Nazi leadership was either dead or arrested and their military was disbanded. It's hard to hate a country when you now control it and are working to rebuild it. I don't think that's going to happen in Russia's case

Interesting that there is no GPS label on the drone.

I wonder how much the GPS network with Ukraine is out of service on both sides.

Russian top military seems to HATE Putin for this war. This is humanity's best hope.

If it's this video it's from 2014

Still a good reminder of why moltovs are useful against armor, not much a tank can do when you can't see where you're going and the air intakes start sucking in smoke

Link is broken by the stupid swear filter. Replace hash marks with the F word, if anyone wants to view it.
