UK MOD publishes today's maps on the extent of the Russian advance and situation update. Sounds like combat units overextending the supply lines and leaving supply units vulnerable is slowing the advance significantly. Based on current troop movements, looks like Putin's objective is to fully take Ukraine and not just cut off Ukrainian access to the Black Sea. Though his plans originally called for a removal of the Ukrainian government in the first 48 hours of the war, so far the Russian military has lost huge number of lives and not really managed to achieve any of their major tactical objectives. https://twitter.com/user/status/1497639083337822212 https://twitter.com/user/status/1497592156738965509 https://twitter.com/user/status/1497714109521043462
Another major problem might be....if Putin goes who is going to come in and replace him?
Every naturally assumes that 'Nobody could be as bad as Putin.'
But if the last few years has taught us anything...dont be so sure that the next thing coming wont be worse.
That may be true for Russia but it wont be for everyone else, the Ukraine especially, if Putin falls Russia will bring its troops back from tails between their legs and cry uncle on all of this, it will, like the fall of the Soviet Union, break Russian power for decades
Stupid question maybe, but does Putin use a numerology? The Georgian invasion was on 08-08-08, and now the Ukrainian one on 22-02-22. Maybe it means nothing, but some dictators are weird like that.

Imagine our sports teams taking up arms to defend an invasion.
The enlistment of ordinary people has been really impressive and inspirational. I worry that a lot of them are not going to fare well in combat. If you are a Russian soldier, hopefully this makes them think twice about "just following orders".

I admire the #### out of that resolve. But how ####ed when we have to celebrate civilians taking up arms. Those who aren’t horrendously maimed or killed will have to deal with a lifetime of emotional distress at best. The world has troops, proper meant for battle troops. I can’t believe we have to see civilians take that role

Most of them would have basic military training already because of Ukraine's mandatory military service program. Mind you a guy who did his service 30 years ago might not fair so well against professional soldiers, but they'll be fighting for their homes which just might be as effective against the demoralized Russian conscript. The professional units maybe not as much.
1:00 a.m. Hostomel, Kyiv Oblast: Column of Russian special forces defeated near Hostomel “Kadyrovites,” named so for the Head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov. According to Channel 24 sources, the Ukrainian military blew up an echelon of 56 tanks that included General Magomed Tushayev, who was killed.

That is....sad, amazing, depressing and yet unbelievably inspiring all at the same time.
It is unbelievable to me that they didnt predict this galvanizing resolve from the Ukrainians.
You've got every rando for miles signing up to fight and the women making Molotov Cocktails in the parking lot.
I cant say that I think its smart, and I certainly cant say that I'd do it, but it is admirable as all hell.
You pushed people to brink...you had to think they'd push back.
Give 'em Hell.

I think a point not yet talked about is Western governments have known Putin's ambitions for years, got caught off balance on Trump's election, and then fell into COVID.
So it went from hypothetical, to f me it's potentially real, to oh #### something else is more serious.
I don't think it's coincidence that Putin is striking when he feels COVID won't derail him, and Western governments have not recovered from financial and other issues. There will not be a more opportune time. Everyone else has spent 2 years ignoring geo-political issues, why would he wait for the west to get settled?
The worst part about this is Trump's election was all part of Putin's operation. Taking that into consideration and the last two conflicts with Ukraine and his entire project to restore Soviet glory had been decades in the making. Every time the West is playing catch up having done nothing until after it has already happened while having been well aware of what Putin is doing. Not really sure what the right steps are to address that obvious gap.
This would be a brilliant thing to film for each high ranking official before engaging.
Not so good for moral, 'hey before you head out we need you to record a phone call laughing about your death so that we can release it when you are killed'

Hey bud, troops will carry a lifetime of baggage as well
